My uncle has a country place, that no one knows about. He says it used to be a farm before the Motor Law.
And on Sundays, I elude the "Eyes" and hop the turbine freight - to far outside the wire where my white-haired uncle waits.
Jump to the ground as the turbo slows to cross the borderline. Run like the wind as excitement shivers up and down my spine.
Down in his barn, my uncle preserved for me an old machine - for 50 odd years. To keep it as new has been his dearest dream.
I strip away the old debris that hides the shining car. A brilliant red Barchetta from a better vanished time.
Fire up the willing engine, responding with a roar! Tires spitting gravel I commit my weekly crime.
Wind in my hair, shifting and drifting. -- mechanical music, -- adrenalin surge.....
Well weathered leather, hot metal and oil, the scented country air. Sunlight on chrome, the blur of the landscape, every nerve aware!
Suddenly ahead of me, across the mountain side, a gleaming alloy air car shoots towards me two lanes wide.
I spin around with shrieking tires to run the deadly race; go screaming through the valley as another joins the chase.
Drive like the wind, straining the limits of machine and man. Laughing out loud with fear and hope, I've got a desperate plan.
At the one lane bridge I leave the giants stranded at the riverside. Race back to the farm to dream with my uncle at the fireside.
The “alloy air car” was the brainchild of a futuristic short story that appeared in a 1960’s era Automobile enthusiast’s magazine.
I’m a major RUSH fan by the way! Both the band and the talk radio star!
To me, RUSH is the greatest rock band in history!
And yet, to date, the wankers at the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame have not inducted them. But Prince and Madonna seem to have made the cut. Go figure.
Neil is and has been their main lyricist, he is probably the richest of the 3 due to royalties.
The greatest song RUSH ever did was “Red Sector A” IMHO. No form of media EVER gave you the feeling of Auschwitz that the song will make you feel deep in your heart.
Only RUSH could put this form of artistic brilliance together. It transcends time!

Great follow through! Nice! (pats your back!)
I’ve been to that stupid hall. Didn’t even mention them.
RUSH did, however, have a star granted on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!
I think this event is supposed to happen this month?? I can’t remember....
Now hand on...I am a huge Rush fan. I saw them probably half a dozen time in the 80's and Neil Peart is my all time favorite drummer and in my top 5 all time favorite lyricists. I've read 3 of his books as well. They certainly deserve to be in the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame. But don't go disparaging Price (I'm fine with Madonna). That dude is simply one of the greatest artists of the last 30 years. He plays every instrument on every record. Writes, produces and sings all the songs. He is an absolute musical genius. You might not like his stuff (I have a vast expanse of musical genres i like) but he deserves to be there.
Just my $0.02...
Probably. Have you ever read any of his books? Link. I've read Ghost Rider, Roadshow and Traveling Music. Some great stuff.
I always thought it was from a better managed time.
And a seemingly decent guy on top of it. He was married to a girl from Toronto and had a very nice house here (think he still does). He used to frequent a slick bistro near my house and never acted like he was anything special, just quiet and courteous.
Funny. I was there to see Dan Marino get inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
I’d love to see RUSH in Hollywood get the star on the Walk!
In case anyone was wondering. It's a Ferrari.
Neil Peart is a visionary ... at the rate we’re going, the “Motor Law” will become a reality sooner than later.
I like Prince, (not a big Purple Rain fan) but he doesn’t have a 35+ years and still going career. Rush deserved to be inducted ahead of him and many of the others that already have been.
“Apparently they don’t make musicians like Neil, Geddy, and Alex anymore. . .”
Big Rush fan here to.
You should give Clutch a listen as well Black Label Society.
