If the US is hit with hyper-inflaion, its all over.

I think it's starting. We grow most of our own food, but in the spring I like something fresh. I'll pick up a few salad vegetables to add some fresh crunch to our meals. The price of fresh salad vegetables went up $.30. A head of lettuce usually costs $.99 but this week it was $1.29. The same for celery.

The price of everything was already up because of the gas prices last year. The prices never came back down. This year, all the fresh stuff has gone up even more. Noting has gone down because of Obomanomics. Nothing. The cost of everything started going up since he declared his run for the presidency. It's as if his presence has cursed this country.

The stock market right now is down -104. I don't think we'll ever see the record market numbers we saw under Bush ever again.

Sheesh. Oboma has screwed up everything.

Come away with me Mary Jo, in my merry Oldsmobile.
Into the tidal pond we’ll fly, automo-bubbling you and I.
‘cross the bridge I’ll drunkenly steal, before emergency bells will peal.
You can go for your final ride with me, in my merry Oldsmobile.

Not to worry though - Muslims can’t sign up for it because to them it’s a form of gambling and is not allowed. So there’s that group of people locked out.

Like all the Y2K idiots that drained their bank accounts and bought semi loads of MRI’s ?

They had extra food. Is that so bad?

I'm not recommending draining bank accounts. I'm recommending frugal living and a little back up. If Obomanomics brings on a major depression, I don't think anyone will be prepared enough.

Depending on the government is really stupid. Being totally dependent on a system being controlled by Oboma is just as stupid.

I was sure you weren’t touting that everyone buy MRI’s, but not every scare/panic is cause to do radical things in planning for them.

Nope, but it's wise to pay attention and be prepared.
It's like backing up a computer. Why bother if the computer isn't crashing? Because there's a good possibility it could, and you'd lose everything.
The same applies to Onomanomics.

There’s no question Oboma is destroying the U.S. economy. Maybe people should start hording their cash and saving a few groceries instead. A wise man hears of trouble coming and prepares for it. If that trouble doesn’t arrive, he’s still much better off because of it.

One question:

Is Congress included in THIS PLAN, or do they have their own plan?

I’d bet the farm that yes, they will have special access to great care. Remember when The Philanderer (Teddy) immediately went to the best brain surgeon in the country at Duke? That fast track will ALWAYS be available to Congress. They wouldn’t vote in something that would equalize themselves with us peons, who will have to claw our way through a ratoned, bureaucratic mess.

Like all the Y2K idiots that drained their bank accounts and bought semi loads of MRI’s ?

I didn't buy any MRI's (too expensive, I'm in pretty good health and could get an MRI at the local hospital if I really needed one).

I did buy some MREs that I used the next summer hiking with my sons and the Boy Scouts, but it didn't even scratch my bank account. I've used my generator many times since then on Eagle Scout work projects, voluntary low income home rehab and mission projects, and a couple of weather-related power outages. The extra gas that I bought worked just fine in my cars and lawn mower.

I'm glad that you feel so comfortable in your situation that you don't need to prepare anything for a rainy day. Unfortunately, there are millions of Americans like you out there that don't take any responsibility for their own wellbeing if their welfare check should stop for a while, or their fuel supply should stop temporarily. In the case of hurricane Katrina, how many thousands of people sat on their a*ses waiting for somebody to pick them up, or bring them supplies? Given time, another day will come when the unprepared will relearn a hard lesson.

Any reasonable person could forsee the need for a few supplies in the event of an emergency. This doesn't require emptying a bank acount, but rather buying a few extra items every time you go shopping. Money spent on cigarettes or fast food could easily be redirected toward a few extra cans of food to store in the back of the pantry.

So you go on laughing at the 'Y2K idiots' that took a little time and effort to prepare. They'll get their turn to laugh when the unprepared are cold and hungry during the next ice storm, gas shortage, etc.

As a Boomer, I’m part of the “pig in a python” demographic. This health care disaster will coincide with the govt’s need to thin out those of us in that huge aging category. Guess rationed care will do that just fine. And if you think your insurance plan constrains your choice of doctors NOW, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

It just angers me to no end that this freak show in D.C. is turning my private relationship with my doctor into a menage a trois.

You are right on target! This past winter during a snowstorm, we had an electrical outage for a few days here in northeast Georgia. It crippled some rural residents, a few of whom I ran into at the post office. They were there to keep warm and were trying to charge their cell phones. They had a few paltry frozen meals in their freezer but no way to warm them. I urged them to go down the street to a convenience store and ask to use their microwave. Told my husband that if people can’t even handle a two-day storm outage, how will they handle an EXTENDED crisis?
