Whatever you think of Sarah Palin, the NRCC’s treatment of her in the run up to tomorrow’s fundraising “gala” has been atrocious. And I don’t just mean in a “that’s not how you treat someone” sort of way. I really mean it in a “that’s not how you raise money and win elections” sense. The anonymous suggestion that
“You dance with the one who brung ya,” said the [campaign committee] official, who stressed that event organizers were still happy to have Palin appear and be introduced.
is patently absurd and borderline offensive. As the Politico article notes, the NRCC first announced that Palin would keynote the event. Then Palin became simply a speaker at the event. And then, tonight, an attendee… maybe. It’s as if the NRCC initiated this “dance” with Palin as a couple, then as friends, ending with the NRCC leaving the dance with someone else… Newt Gingrich.
I have no skin in the “who’s headlining” political game, and I want the NRCC to raise as much money as possible for Republicans who hold the ideals of small, responsible and responsive government. If Palin was happy to be “a” speaker and not “the” speaker at the fundraiser, terrific. It’s a PR-money-bomb-Sarahcuda-Newtapalooza bonanza, hopefully. And maybe it still will be without Palin’s presence (we’ll never really know,) but if you hear an ominous “squeeaaaak” echoing across the halls of Congress, that’s the sound of Palin-affilliated money spickets shutting off all over the country.
Sarah Palin was the most effective fundraiser the Republican Party had in 2008, and I find it incredibly short-sighted and bordering on political malpractice for the NRCC to do anything but harness her energy and the dollars her persona brings to the table. This event should not be all about a single personality, but about the Party, which is exactly why the NRCC’s apparent second-thoughts on bringing a politician with a (gasp!) national following because it might overshadow another politician with a (gasp!) national following seem so suspicious and unseemly.
Surely the Speaker did not endorse the move. Two stars shine brighter than one, and I have to hope the Speaker would be happy to share the stage for the sake of the Party’s 2010 hopes, despite the NRCC’s best (and worst) efforts to protect him.
Meanwhile, the NRCC should hope that its dance card doesn’t start shrinking. Reputations stick, and school’s just begun.

Until they reject RINOS I will continue to reject the RNCC.

The national Republicans and their consultants are an embarrassment at a time when our country deserves and needs a serious limited-government party.
On the other hand, I offer kudos in an unexpected direction, recognizing the action of one of the party’s smartest politicians this weekend—when Rudy and his wife hosted the Palins at a Yankees game. That is how our leading politicos are supposed to act when one of their busiest and brightest stars is in town all the way from Alaska.
Well, they used to be called the Stupid Party. Now we’ll have to figure out something a little stronger, because they have NEVER been as stupid as they have been this past year.
Siccessfully starting up a new party is hard as hell. It only happens about once every 100 or 150 years. But it looks as if we may have no other choice. Things started going downhill after the highly successful 2002 and 2004 elections, when the Republicans were rewarded by the voters in their base, and they’be been going down ever since. 2006 was a self-inflicted disaster. 2008 was even worse. And it really looks as if they want 2010 to be worse yet.
Aaargh.
Nothing new for the NRCC. They cut my conservative congressman’s campaign funding right before the last election and said he was a lost cause. The “lost cause” did lose but only by 2 freakin percent.
Watch what I do when they decide to run a RINO in my district next time around. I won’t be manipulated into voting their way.
John McCain lost the election for the Republican Party, NOT Sarah Palin, till they recognize and admit it and stop sucking up to RINO’s, I have no interest in supporting them.

Their goal is to dump the pro-life, traditional marriage, and gun voters.
Spickets is a pretty common “misspelling”. It drives me nuts but a lot of people use the word.

It's not "misspelling" in quotes, it's a misspelling. A real, honest-to-goodness misspelling.
People should learn from their errors and correct them. I am sick and tired of our language being incrementally destroyed because people are too lazy and/or proud to write correctly.

don't know if it'll be the Governor of Alaska....
but I do know this.....I gave and gave and gave money seems like every week to the McCain campaign and to other campaigns....more money than I've donated ever by 10 ......( okay, I am not rich, but by my standards, it was alot)..
it was only because of Sarah Palin....not McCain........
she is well liked and respected and people will donate to her.....whoever runs against her in Alaska better be prepared to face the nation of freepers because I know we'll all donate....
Here is how I see it: The republican leadership want to become one with the Dimwit party. One party rule. They keep pushing for us to move farther to the left with the intent of eventually erasing ALL differences between the parties. To tell us to back off our conservative principles should tell you all you need to know about the Republican leaders we have now. Either a massive cleaning of the party is in order or we have to form a real conservative party. There is no other course of action open if we wish to remain conservative.
Right now, I'm betting on a split.
