Could California become the first state in the nation to do away with welfare?

That doomsday scenario is on the table as lawmakers wrestle with a staggering $24.3 billion budget deficit.

County welfare directors are "in shock" at the very idea of getting rid of CalWORKs, which has been widely viewed as one of the most successful social programs in the state's history, said Bruce Wagstaff, director of the Department of Human Assistance in Sacramento.

When Michigan was in financial trouble in the late 70s-early 80s, the welfare entities started to push welfare-for-lifers into various federal programs; that wasn’t uncommon throughout the country.

For starters, we need a complete, multi-layer border fence with Mexico, including various types of electronic frontier technology (listening for tunnelling, motion detection, etc). Next, we need a roundup of illegals and their deportation should be enabled by a large increase in INS staffing and budget (watch someone here call that “socialist” in 3,2,1...).

Now it's the land of liberal radicals, the lushed up "homeless", gay rights activists, illegals, Hollyweirdos, and cradle to grave entitlements. Oh, and they're all broke. Looking for a handout.
