Fascinating article. I'm sure the State Dept is absolutely stuffed with people like this, too. Some probably work for Fidel, some for the Muslim Nutcase of the Month, etc. State was full of spies back in the 30s and 40s. The interesting thing, if you read Whittaker Chambers, for example, is that a lot of the most devoted Communists were from fine old families and old money. Very strange, but I guess it's not rational. This is from the end of the article:

Only one thing is certain. To the end of their spying career, the Myers' were unrepentant and still in love with Fidel.

KENDALL MYERS continued: "It's forever. . . You know, it's like Fidel . . . It's forever."

I have a vague recollection from that time in 75 when he mowed down that 16yo there was a good deal of controversy about a very light sentence for someone who was probably drunk.

People like this I detest. They have had the best this country can offer both in social status and trust. Anyone who has taken the time to read any of the McCarthy materials especially some recently declassified materials from the USSR knows the state department, some of Truman's and a good deal of Roosevelt's administration were spies or fellow travelers all with the same motivation that is they believed in a cause and did not spy for money or extortion.

Meanwhile, since they are having trouble getting info from these two, give me a blow torch and a pair of pliers and I will have them singing in ten minutes.
