Erin King squeezed into a packed classroom at Bob's Gun Shop with a new pistol and a mission.
She sat through two hours of instruction and fired off several dozen rounds at the range with her Guardian .32-caliber. The 26-year-old from Suffolk bought her first gun a few weeks ago and plans to get a concealed-carry permit next month.
She'll slip her pistol into a hidden holster and protect herself commuting to her part-time job cleaning offices at night. "I'm responsible for myself," King said.
As the classroom shows, she's not alone.

No prizes for guessing what entity employs these new arrivals.
The federal government, of course, mainly the military. But I thought military tended to be conservative. Maybe that's changing too. :o(
Thanks,
Here we had to go to a local sheriff and get finger printed then send it to the State gubmint and there it took 5 months.
Thanks, good to hear some states are pro gun.
Does anybody have a recommendation for which course to take to prove proficiency in order to get your CCW permit?
Any NRA course will fill the bill. Just about everyone offers a ‘Basic Pistol’ course. Go to the NRA website - they have a section on courses available in various cities and counties.
Perhaps it is because they know all too well that the intent of the 2nd Amendment was to ensure that the populous would have guns to use against a tyrannical government.
They are afraid that the people would correctly see them as being part of the encroaching tyranny of the 0bama administration.

In PA, I have read numbers as high as 500,000 who have a license to carry. That is a heck of a lot of people and augurs well for the demise of poorly crafted gun laws.
The more people who carry guns, the less likely strict gun laws are.
More responsible citizens willing to defend themselves = less crime. Even the Brady Bunch should see that obvious connection.
They do, and that's why they don't like the trend, it proves all their Lies and emotional propaganda is a load of grad A, Prime BS [ Bull Shumer]
The Hungarians made or make them , too. It was a Russian franchise.
I received my (AR) permit on the 98th calendar day after submitting the application.
The State Police here have up to 120 days to either issue or to explain any denial with a letter.
Glad ya got your permit, the more the safer.
Am going to come to Arkansas about September to ride my motorcycle on something other than flat land.
Any suggestions?
Definitely.
Petit Jean State Park near Morrilton, and Mount Nebo State Park near Russellville.
Also, Highway 7 from Russellville northward toward Eureka Springs is awesome.
Other Arkies know more, but those are definitely places I’d go.
Coming home from Vegas two years ago we stopped at the welcome center as you came in to the state on I-40. Spoke to a nice helpful lady and asked the most scenic way to go towards Florida and she sent us down SR7 from Russelville to El Dorado.
Quite lovely drive and the folks we met were so very nice.
Course we are at a restaurant in Amy having breakfast when a guys cell phone went off with a pig squeal. But you can find that in N.Y. City.
Will check out Petit Jean State Park and Mount Nebo State Park and thanks.
I’m tired of no hills and no seasons.
