Borel is a turncoast. I know he was under contract but Mine That Bird could have won it all. Muddy track could be good for the bird.

Calvin Borel rode Rachel Alexandra to win the Kentucky Oaks the day before he won on the back of Mine That Bird in the Kentucky Derby. Borel and Rachel Alexandra won the Kentucky Oaks by 20 1/4 lengths, the largest victory margin in Ky Oaks history.

Borel is a turncoast.

Is that worse than a turncoat?

Secretariat’s win at Belmont is one of the most amazing things ever. Perfection that will bring tears to your eyes.

I don’t think he’s a turncoat. It’s a business, and he has an agent and Rachel Alexandra looked promising. I would imagine that for your livelihood, you’d best go with the flow. I saw some footage of him with Mine That Bird, and he does seem to care for the horse. I wish him the best, but mostly wish for a safe race for all.

Was Secretariat a huge horse like a freighttrain?

Mine That Bird and the one last year or the year before looked much smaller.

I would have loved to see Mine That Bird win them all and he almost won the last race. A $9500 horse pulled behind a pickup all night from NM to KY is my kind of horse to win the KY Derby is my kind of horse.

"Was Secretariat a huge horse like a freighttrain?"

Yes, he was on the large side for a Thoroughbred racehorse. It was is heart, however, that was most remarkable. When they did his autopsy (or whatever it's called for a horse), they found he had the largest heart ever discovered in a racehorse. I don't know if that record still stands, but it certainly was amazing for his day.

Gosh I lost another hero in Secretariat and didn't even know it. I had him in a peaceful pasture playing super-stud. Guess he is but in another dimension.

"It’s a business, and he has an agent and Rachel Alexandra looked promising."

If he does win today, his business decision may actually turn out to be a poor one. As a jockey who rode the same winning horse and in all three races (and I believe that he very well may have one if he'd been on Mine that Bird), he would have joined a very exclusive club. As it stands now, he'll just be an interesting footnote.

"Gosh I lost another hero in Secretariat and didn't even know it. "

No. He's been dead for a while now, 10 years or longer. If you ever get a chance, look for a story that was done a year or two after his death. It was written by a "Sports Illustrated" writer William Knack and I believe was an excerpt from a book that Knack had written on Secretariat. It was the most moving sports story had ever read, and continues to be to this day.
