Federal officials say a Washington, D.C.-area couple has been arrested and accused of spying for Cuba.
Officials say both are former U.S. government employees -- he from the State Department, she as a Congressional aide.
One official says the spying went on for more than two decades.
We expect to learn more details later today when a federal indictment is unsealed. For now, officials will not disclose the names or any other details....

White House statement that they are still innocent and deeply saddened.
Eric Holder indicates there will be no prosecution.
It’s their base.
They must both be democrats - because it’s NOT mentioned in the top of the story.

Wow. This story has just taken my breath away. Do you remember the State Department analyst in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research (relatively obscure but one of the US government's intelligence agencies) who caused a storm in late 2006 with his disdainful remarks about the US-US "special relationship?
His name was Kendall Myers and I was one of two British journalists who reported his decidedly undiplomatic comments. He retired quietly in 2007. Well, he's just been arrested as a spy for Cuba for nearly 30 years. The Cubans apparently knew him better as their Agent 202 I'm told that his comments made him something of a hero among career officials in some quarters of the State Department and he received only a minor admonishment for them.
Details from the indictment indicate that he could have been a major spy - he and his wife were allegedly recruited by a Cuban agent back in 1979 and Myers was directed to seek a job in either the State Department or CIA. He apparently applied to the CIA in 1981 but did not get hired. Myers and his wife Gwendolyn allgedly met President Fidel Castro in 1995 - not an audience, one would think, that would be granted to an insignificant spy. Indeed, David Kris, assistant attorney general for national security, described the couple's alleged spying for as "incredibly serious".
According to the indictment, they would pass secrets in Washington supermarkets and sometimes used Morse code. They were arrested after an FBI sting operation which involved an FBI agent approaching them pretending to be a Cuban spy and subsequently meeting them several times in Washington hotels.
I met Myers for a drink once back, I think, in 2001 or 2002, I think, at Chef Geoff's restaurant in downtown Washington. He wanted to get my opinions on whether hardline Unionist politicians might be prepared to cut a political deal with Sinn Fein and the IRA. He told me his brief was to provide "out of the box" thinking drawn from a variety of sources to career State Department diplomats formulating policy. At the time, the Good Friday Agreement peace deal in Northern Ireland peace was under severe strain.
I found him to be an erudite and well-read fellow who was an interesting conversationalist and was much more indiscreet that most State Department officials. He was clearly no fan of President George W. Bush and seemed to be fit the caricature of the pro-European, soft-Left type that is often levelled at the State Department by conservatives. The Department of Justice release here has lots more detail.
Great find! Thanks.
This guy’s claim to fame was that he set out to be a one man wrecking crew towards US/British relations during the WOT.

Sample Myers quote:
“The last prime minister to resist American pressure was Neville Chamberlain who was a much more brilliant figure in British diplomacy [than Winston Churchill].”
Surprised they needed spys: I assumed our illegal president would just hand it over
“Kendall Myers allegedly defrauded the State Department whenever he received his government salary. “
He will replace Geithner.
Scooty Libby got jail for nothing.
Dick Armitage got nothing for leaking classified information.
These two will probably be the toast of the Washingto cocktail circuit.
Wouldn't be surprised. No way they will serve any time.
Obama/Holder will give them a medal.
Starting to make me wonder if there IS something to those crazy Obama-Cuba stories that came out right before the election...
Barak’s father -- http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2124007/posts
According to an intelligence report just received, when Barack Obama’s mother, Ann Dunham, traveled to Cuba in 1960, as member of a group of American students who were supporting Fidel Castro and the Cuban Revolution, she was sent to live in a “Red” commune in Central Cuba. Although she was known for her loose behavior or promiscuity, she mostly went out with a Cuban from the city of Sagüa La Grande, on the northern coast of Cuba, named Francisco Cundo. According to the report, when Ann left Cuba in December of 1960, she was two months pregnant.
Ann proceeded to Hawaii to stay with her parents and study at the University of Hawaii. Barack Obama, in his book titled, The Audacity of Hope, states that his mother was four (6) months pregnant when she married “his father,” Barack Obama, Sr. The states that this all can be easily corroborated if the necessary and adequate genetic and DNA blood tests are done.
What else are the power manipulators of the American political scenario and the truly “leftist/liberal” media concealing and were they aware of this? Is Barack Hussein Obama a very real MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, or not? Is Barack Obama a Cuban, or not? He would have the right according to the 1940 Cuban Constitution. Has Barack Obama received funds from Cubans IN CUBA, not in the United States?
What is truly going on? When will the U.S. Government provide those who support it with true and factual information?
