You’re very correct in all respects... I just hesitate to praise QT too much to Americans because I’ve noticed a tendency for them to think of it as some sort of silver bullet... I’m Texan born and back here now but I’ve also lived under Westminster systems. Personal experience has taught me that QT has it’s limits and I just try to remind people of that.

I wonder what kind of support she'd get from the traditionally English people, and by “traditionally English” I mean to exclude the media, the politicians and the immigrants.

Well, to begin with you'd need for those "traditionally English" folks to forget the last several hundred years of English parliamentary history....

It'd be like Obama making himself a king -- and you're not too pleased by his pretensions in that direction, are you?

No I'm not. On the other hand I don't think it would be the same thing. We are citizens of the United States and the individual sovereign states. As such, we have not had a Crown to look to since our beginning and we do not have a reigning king to take the lead. The traditional English on the other hand have been subjects of the Crown, have had Kings and Queens for a long time, and have a reigning Queen to take the lead. They might look on a monarchy benevolent to them and bent on restoring some sanity as an improvement over their present situation. I say “might”. I don't know for sure.

For all intents and purposes the English people haven’t been “subjects of the crown” for well over 200 years. They’ve been run by Parliament for a very long time.
