I’m a local, worked in base for many years, and I’m hear to tell you its a tough location to secure. Size, remoteness, ocean frontage and dense brush provide lot’s of opportunities for encroachment. That said, bye bye Point Sal.

Not to mention, the Amtrak Coast Starlighter runs right through Vandenberg. Easy enough, if the train slows down for whatever reason, to jump off.

I know the area pretty well. I lived in Shell Beach (Pismo) for many years and have been to the base on several occasions (L-5 meetings and tours). I’ve watched many a missile launch from various points along the coast — including my own yard in Shell — and can still see them from here in Ventura County. I understand the security problem well — as bad as Area 51 with more cover!
