Vandenberg AFB Beefs Up Security: No Beach Access

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. — Beefed up security at Vandenberg Air Force Base is preventing public access to the state's Point Sal Beach, which can only be reached on foot through military base property.

Outdoor recreational activity has also been banned on most of Vandenberg's 98,000 acres near Lompoc.

The military says the heightened state of security will be in place indefinitely. Officials with Vandenberg's 30th Space Wing says the Department of Defense ordered the increase in security and no details are being released.

However, the measures were imposed after Osama bin Laden released an audio recording threatening Americans.

I doubt this has anything to do with the Bin Laden tape or a terror threat.

The fact that these type of measures are being encountered at this base and no other base (they we know of) indicates something specific here rather than a general type of alert.

Preparations for a possible North Korea ICBM intercept seem the mostly likely giving the timing of this and current events.

Could also be something less dramatic such as the installation/construction of new base facilities.

Yet, when at sea, we steamed at condition 3 for months on end, gunners at their general quarters station while not readily expecting conflict as imminent

The government ALREADY thinks we're incapable of doing anything for ourselves. If they knew an attack was imminent, the usual sirens/emergency alerts would be activated but, any organized evac/shelter run would be useless/helter,skelter and likely cause mass panic.

IMO, we REALLY don't want this to happen. I'd rather we knew of a massive space body coming and have time to get our spiritual lives in order than senselessly killing ourselves.

The info about the F-22s is very interesting. Dubya and
Congress nixed the idea of selling F-22s to Japan because of concerns it might upset China. Sending American-piloted planes there now seems to be a pretty blunt warning to China, NK and any other players. It’s a stronger move than I’d have expected Zero to make.
