Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) dared members of his own Conference to vote against the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court during a meeting Thursday with Latino leaders.
During a brief press conference after the session, Reid reaffirmed his support for Sotomayors nomination and issued his challenge to Democratic lawmakers: I dare any one of them to say theyre not supporting Sotomayor.
Reids statement comes on the heels of comments by Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) a moderate Member with a strong independent streak in which he questioned some of Sotomayors statements on race and the role of the judiciary.
According to the Omaha World-Herald, Nelson called Sotomayors comments troubling and would like her to provide an explanation.

Contrast the Democrats’ attitude with that of the Republicans in mirror situations.

I think it’s racist to say that one cannot make any substantive criticisms of someone just because they are Hispanic. And what about Miguel Estrada?

This is just the start of how our communist nation is going to be, them telling everyone what we can and can't do, what we can and can't think or say...
The following was a story that was in an email I get from the Christian Anti Defamation Commission, it is scary but true:
This past Good Friday, a rude awakening was in store for San Diego pastor David Jones. After holding Bible studies in their home for years, a county code enforcement officer came to their home. The female officer proceeded to take pictures of the home and then questioned Mrs. Jones about their weekly Bible study.
According to Mary, the pastor's wife, the most startling thing that happened is when the officer began to ask questions. "Do you have a regular weekly meeting in your home? Do you sing? Do you say 'amen'? Do you say, 'Praise the Lord'?"
After responding "yes" to these questions, the pastor's wife was told that they must stop the meetings immediately. A follow up letter sent by the county told Pastor Jones to cease holding his Bible study.
Why? The county considered them to be holding "religious assemblies." To hold such meetings requires that they obtain a Major Use Permit from the county. This would cost thousands of dollars.
The county official then warned them that if they did not obtain the permit that they would be charged with escalating fines starting at $100, then $200, $500, $1000. If they still did not comply, then it will get ugly.
Many state and local governments are finding themselves in hard economic times and are turning to aggressive code enforcement to generate revenue. But this attempt to extort Major Use Permit fees for holding a home Bible Study is a clear violation of the Jones First Amendment right. They have every right to peacefully exercise their religion in their own home.
Apart from this the countys own requirements for a Major Use Permit for a religious assembly was inapplicable. According to their own codes the weekly Bible Study did not meet the countys definition of religious assembly.
This attack on the Jones right to hold a Bible Study is very serious. The kind of questioning that took place by the county official was completely inappropriate. What about groups that meet regularly to watch ball games? What about people who have Tupperware parties? Do they need a permit, too? Why was the countys charges specifically about the Jones religious practices?
The news of this situation went nationwide and the County of San Diego was inundated with complaints about how they were treating Pastor Jones. The county claims it is now working to resolve this issue, but they changed the initial reasoning for the citation claiming it was for parking violations. Yet in the original citation parking is not mentioned and the reason the meeting was targeted was based solely on the Jones' religious activity.
Home Bible Studies go all the way back to the Book of Acts and the birth of the church. They are a major part of church life for many churches in America. To target Christians because of the content of their meetings is clearly in violation of their religious liberties. Common sense tells you that a meeting of fifteen people in a home each week does not constitute the need for a Major Use Permit. The Countys actions in this case are clearly discriminatory based on the religious nature of their meeting.
Figures that this happened in the liberal state of California.

When you consider the fact that most of the Republicans will end up voting for her, then this doesn't seem to me like a very brave statement. I mean, it's like putting ice cream in front of Rosy O'Donnell and daring her to eat it. Big deal.
Before we get all hot and bothered about this nomination, let's try and remember that Ruth Ginsburg got 96 votes, and she's at least as left wing as this Sotomayor chick, and everyone knew it at the time. I know that most Freepers don't speak french, but I think that we all know what a fait accompli is.
