TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — President Barack Obama has appointed a Great Lakes czar to oversee the administration's initiative to restore the Lakes' environment.

Cameron Davis, president of the Chicago-based environmentalist group Alliance for the Great Lakes, will head the effort. The alliance announced the appointment Wednesday.

The restoration program is expected to cost more than $20 billion.

I have an aunt working for the Sharon Valley land trust. They keep a close eye on property in the area and even start pushing the state to foreclose as soon as a landowner is late on their taxes.

The idiot lives at Lake LeAnn which is also a former swamp made into a lake. She isn’t smart enough to realize that her green pals will eventually come after her home.

What I find most disconcerting, besides all these "czar" appointments, is that there has been no constitutional challenge made about creation of so many "czars".

All reporting only to the community organizer in chief.

are not accountable for their actions to the Congress, to cabinet officials, and to virtually anyone but the president

Since Sen.Robert Byrd (D-WV) became hospitalized not one voice has been raised in concern about this end run around the Constitution.

For that amount of money, maybe they can clean up the Swimmer’s Itch in the inland lakes? LOL!

Sadly I believe they intend to drive us all out of the state and create an enormous national forest or something. After all, every drop of water in the state is connected to the great lakes in one way or the other and everyone in the state lives within a mile of some kind of lake, pond, or stream.

On no - I thought he might forget about Michigan now that he’s destroyed our economy and taken away many of our jobs. I guess we’re really in his cross hairs. The rest of the country - watch and learn. This could happen to you!

I think all of the state but Detroit proper.
They need that.

They better count me among the casualties because I’m not leaving in an upright position.

You can get a job as a park ranger and stay right in your home!
I swear I have never seen a state with more park land. 100 feet worth of field and it becomes a protected park!

When I left Syracuse there was a $20 million or so plan to clean up the lake and surrounding areas, to be (mostly?) paid for by Allied Signal when Solvay Process was shut down.
I don’t recall the specifics but I fail to see what there is to clean up there now.

Exactly my point. This isn't about cleanup, it's about control. The alliance for the great lakes is all about removing dams, bridges, roads, homes etc. In effect they want control of all of Michigan. Check out their "toolkit". It starts with a lie in the very first sentence. I know because I used to catch trout within feet of the very dam they claim had destroyed the trout habitat.

Dude, I didn’t mean the people personally, I meant the purveyors of the “rust belt”. Please accept my apologies, and here’s a lug of cherries to make it feel better! :)

Its OK I shouldn’t take things personally.

Mostly I’m irritated that this group is getting billions to clean up a virtually nonexistant mess. This group is all about control. 30 years ago they had a reason to worry about the lakes but today they’re pretty healthy.

Maybe, if this committee actually went into the lakes and collected the zebra mussels, I’d hold out some hope for them (the collectors, not the zebra mussels). Oh, well, same song, second verse, it’s coming from Washington and we’re screwed.

I’m still taking a collection for a garbage scow to give Jenny Jenny a ride back to Canada!

(but really, if you want the cherries, let me know about the end of June...unless obambi decides we need to tax them too!)

No need for cherries, I figure we got some federal money for them anyway.

As for the zebra mussels. I suspect they actually helped the lakes quite a bit but they’ve long since outlived their usefullness.

Thank you for the correction, Comrade. I humbly appoint you the “Under Czar of Numbers”....your budget is limited to $15,000,000,000.00.

I’ve been browsing through a lot of zeros lately.

I think we all get numb. I mean, round off $20.4 Billion and ya got 400 million on the budget floor there for Biden to exuse away.

$15 Billion budget for the Under Czar? But is it going to make me happy?

Seems like just yesterday we were reading, watching and listening to Carl Sagan say, “Mullyens and bullyens of stars..”

I am particularly interested in the politics of the Great Lakes as a resource so this will be good to watch.

Good post.
