Mitt Romney: Jihadism Is Not Part of Islam

I asked Romney how he'd respond to Muslim complaints that his speech characterized Islam in entirely sinister terms. His response surprised me:
I didn't refer to Islam at all, or to any other religion for that matter. I spoke about three major threats America faces on a long term basis. Jihadism is one of them, and that is not Islam. If you want my views on Islam, it's quite straightforward. Islam is one of the world's great religions and the great majority of people in Islam want peace for themselves and peace with their maker. They want to raise families and have a bright future.
There is, however, a movement in the world known as jihadism. They call themselves jihadists and I use the same term. And this jihadist movement is intent on causing the collapse of moderate Muslim states and the assassination of moderate Muslim leaders. It is also intent on causing collapse of other nations in the world. It's by no means a branch of Islam. It is instead an entirely different entity. In no way do I suggest it is a part of Islam.

Well, no one can deny that the two are intimately associated.
So we can only deduce that Romney believes that Islam is part of Jihadism.

He does get it. Do you think all muslims are jihadis? And don't tell me the Koran will make all muslims jihadis.
Islam lacks Christ, and is therefore stuck in a pre-Christian worldview. But Jews stoned people for adultery before Christ came, as well.

Don’t worry he’ll flip flop several more times before he runs again.

The lesson here is that you never get religious
accuracy from someone who thinks he will be
a god some day.

Isn't jihad considered the "sixth pillar of Islam" for many Mohammedans?
Even if most don't, jihad is still a central aspect of Mohammedanism.

Clearly all Muslims are not jihadist but to deny that Jihad has its foundation within Islamic texts is just plan denial my friend. That is what Mitt doesn't understand or doesn't want to.

Islam lacks Christ, and is therefore stuck in a pre-Christian worldview. But Jews stoned people for adultery before Christ came, as well. Try again..... Christianity had been around a few hundred years before islam came to be.... In fact Christ is mentioned in the Qu'ran, but He is a listed as a prophet and not the Messiah.
Try watching the movie "Animal Farm" and then reading the Qu'ran. You almost expect the surahs to say "Some animals are more equal than others."
The Qu'ran reads like someone took the Bible and edited parts they didn't like to fit their ends, and then called for Christians/Jews (less equal animals "People of the Book") to be killed.

Mitt, please stick to analyzing the idiosyncrasies of your own cult.

This is extremely disappointing indeed. I understand that as a person who is constantly dogged about his own religion he doesn't want to engage in sweeping generalizations about another, but come on. Why is it that Christians and secularists are the ones continually telling us that jihad is not part of Islam, but Imams and Muslims are constantly telling their followers the opposite? This is PC double-talk and a very disappointing lack of moral clarity and political courage from someone who spoke eloquently about the dangers of radical Islam during the campaign. I am hugely disappointed by this.
