Bomb Scare at France's Charles de Gaulle Airport
New Tang Dynasty Television ^ | 6..209

Police cleared media and passengers away from the entrance of Charles de Gaulle airport's terminal 2 on Monday.

They then blew up a suspicious package.

Media are standing by at the airport for news on the missing Airbus and its 228 passengers and crew presumed to have crashed in the Atlantic.

Air France says lightning and strong turbulence could have downed the plane en route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris early on Monday.

If so, it would be the worst air disaster caused by lightning, according to the Aviation Safety Network.

Most experts say however, that such a strike was unlikely to down a modern jet.

You have to wonder if yutes were involved (the same yutes who firebomb French cars every night of the year)...

I don’t think it was the “yutes”...it was the disciples from the “religion of peace’.

This must be common at CDG.
Several years ago I was on a shuttle bus at CDG when it was held up in front of that terminal.
Someone had left a suitcase on the sidewalk, and we had to wait for the bomb squad to come blow it up before the bus could continue.
It is fun to see a lot of flying underwear :)

I can see the plane getting in trouble with storms and lightning when at lower altitudes, but at high cruise
altitude, it seems strange.
I would think the cells would be quite isolated
and well defined.
They should be quite visible by eye and on radar
at 35,000 feet, and easily avoided.

Our post 9/11 world really goes back to Leon Klinghoffer; it’s just that we have been too slow to respond to the growing desire and ability of radical Muslim groups to export terrorism from their own people.

Iraq has been a difficult way to respond, but it was a response. There were 14 grounds the UN Security Council laid out for authorizing the use of force against Iraq. WMD was only one of them. Hussein was shooting at our planes, paying $25K bounties to the families of every suicide bomber in Israel, etc. Maybe we should have dealt with Iran first, but that seems more tractable, particularly given the pro-Western stance of many of its people. Afghanistan and Pakistan are pro-Western governments, so it will be a long hard slog to stabilize them against a well-financed insurgency. But it was better to have a strategy than none in a post 9-11 world.

The Republican Party is not afraid to be the party of ideas in this world — whether on foreign or domestic issues. The Democrats are using the same tactics and ideas they used in the 70s, or even the 30s (read: The Forgotten Man- uncanny). They are bereft of ideas, and it is too bad, because we need all Americans united in the world we face.

Be careful.

Don't stay there too long.

A couple decades or so ago, there were a number of jet downings on land due to microbursts — narrow, invisible columns of wind which would push a plane down then let it back up in rapid succession as it passed through, sometimes resulting in an unrecoverable tumble to the ground. Could such a thing ever happen at sea???

The gross odds still favor you when passing through Charles de Gaulle over riding Greyhound, but that is cold comfort to the families of the lost.
