President Obama will name Republican Rep. John McHugh as Army secretary, FOX News has learned.
McHugh, of New York, is the top Republican on the House Armed Services Committee. First elected in 1980, he represents a large rural area of upstate New York that borders Canada. The district includes Ft. Drum.
The selection of McHugh is significant as the president has again picked a leading Republican with impeccable national security credentials for a key military post.
McHugh would be tapped to succeed Pete Geren, who has held the post since July 2007.

So will the seat be taken by a Dem?
Probably.
My first thought also, Obama does what is:
1) Best for him politically
2) Best for his party politically
3) Best for our nation
In that order, so what is he getting out of this?
Here are bills he sponsored.

Of course. The dem gov will appoint one.
This would be better put, “..as Obama continues to rape and pillage the oppositions numbers in congress.”
Who will then turn into another Gates and another Petraeus and turn traitor.
I believe that NY state law prescribes that Congressional seats must be filled by special elections. I have no idea about the political fortune of the GOP in that part of NY. So, I don't know what the chances are of keeping the seat.
I believe that leaves only one GOP congressman in all of the NE, Rep. Peter King, IIRC.
Obama’s re-election is being assured by dumbass Republicans. That guy in Utah—took the China ambassadorship, right? So now when Chinese relations fail, Obama says, “I tried to be bipartisan and our Republican friend failed.”
When he is called on the carpet for military failures and moves, he’ll say, “I relied on the advice of my Republican Army secretary.”
Never mind that he doesn’t have to listen to them...they are being chosen as token set-up men. Fall guys. His b******s to be blamed when convenient.
Amazing to me they don’t see through such an obvious Chicago thug-like ploy.
I think #3 should be at #20 on a list of twenty!
“Of course. The dem gov will appoint one.”
Members of the House are never appointed.
Here is his on the issues ratings.

He is very pro-life, pro 2nd based on this. Moderate on other issues.
Does make me wonder who will replace him.
I question your number 3...
This is the problem with modern-day politician (especially GOP politicians of late). They look at politics as a career, not as an ideological calling. They're in it for the paycheck.
It certainly is the "New" England. SOCIALIST
Two sides of the same progressive coin ...
Why would any American want to be part of this unsustainable communist plan ... Ask yourself, when was the last time your saw a Fiat? When was the last time you looked for a Fiat on purpose.

That's a great link and website. It does look like he was a solid Republican, especially considering he's from NY. This isn't good.
