Recruiter Shooting Suspect Under FBI Investigation (Traveled to Yemen on Somali Passport)
ABC News ^ | Monday, June 1, 2009 | Richard Esposito, Pierre Thomas and Jack Date

The suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of one soldier and the critical injury of another at a Little Rock, Ark., Army recruiting booth today was under investigation by the FBI's Joint Terrorist Task Force since his return from Yemen, ABC News has learned.

The investigation was in its preliminary stages, authorities said, and was based on the suspect's travel to Yemen and his arrest there for using a Somali passport.

The suspect, Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, 24, had changed his name from Carlos Leon Bledsoe after converting to the Muslim faith.

Law enforcement sources said he offered no resistance when Little Rock police arrested him today.

It was not known what path Muhammad, a U.S. citizen who is a recent convert to Islam, had followed to radicalization.

"At this point it appears that he specifically targeted military personnel, but there doesn't appear to be a wider conspiracy or, at this point in time, any indication that he's a part of a larger group or a conspiracy to go further," Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas said.

But, Muhammad's travels overseas have sparked a major international investigation. Officials say it is too early to know for certain if he indeed acted alone.

According to sources, the suspect advised them that he was going to kill as many Army personnel as possible. At the time of the shooting, the subject had approximately 200 rounds of ammunition available, police said.

According to a police report, Muhammad told police he saw two uniformed U.S. soldiers in front of the recruiting office before he shot and killed Pvt. William Long, 23, and wounded Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula, 18, while they were taking a break outside the U.S. Army recruiting station where they both worked.

I know the perp was black. What color were the victims? Not trying to make the attack a racial thing (it was a radical Muslim thing), but have to wonder if race plays any part of BO’s lack of response. Here’s the way I see this running through Barry’s teleprompter:

Black on white crime; no comment.
Black on black crime; no comment.
White on white crime; comment with great indignation.
White on black crime; comment and call for federal thought crime laws.

Or maybe I’m totally on the wrong track. Perhaps if the the victims were communists or socialists he would have made a statement regardless of race.

Interesting info and good questions—all of which need to be asked and answered.

That said, this doesn’t look to be a family-based sleeper cell. While it’s always wise to consider the long-range pre-planning and positioning of terrorists, Bledsoe’s businesses have been around for 20 years. Likely a case of hard-working, industrious entrepreneurs with a scumbag son. Son Carlos Jihad-Come-Lately may have used, or planned to use, daddy’s biz for his own evil purpose without parent knowledge of his agenda. But at this juncture, it doesn’t look like a planned front operation—at last not from Melvin’s side.
Carlos’s Jihad recruiters might have found the travel agency connection an interesting addition to their bag of tricks, though.

He converted to Islam in prison would be a good clue.

There's no reference in any of the news stories of his having been in prison (including Fox), nor did the Little Rock police chief state that in last evening's news conference.

Maybe his conversion to Islam is a bit more complicated than the usual jail house school of jihad?

Take a peek at ABC’s ‘related’ section...about 6 paragraphs in.

Grrrrrr - this has me totally furious! Flying back from TX yesterday, I sat next to a really nice guy - retired army (25 years of service). He said that once he found out that Zero was the nominee for Pres. he couldn't wait to get out of the service. Oh yeah, btw, he's black too and thinks that Zero is a muslim!

The muslim hordes had better be careful. They complain about “racial profiling” by our federal, state and local officials but they will really complain if the good ‘ol boys in the south decide to start hunting cans. More and more people, in my opinion, are starting to get tired of this kind of crap.

Seriously, is Islam on the rise because we are becoming less civilized?

Yet again the Dept of Homeland (in)Security has failed to protect our soldiers and citizens. They even knew about this scumbag. But they were focussed on vehicles with Ron Paul stickers, and/or Constitution supporting stickers.

You want protection? Protect and defend yourself. Meantime, fire everyone, all the way to the top, any and all who had any knowledge regarding this scumbag, yet failed to properly screen and act. Then they should be charged, arrested, and tried for criminal negligence.

Then, perhaps next time, their predecessors will be a little more diligent regarding their duty to protect citizens from scumbags like this satan worshipper.

That’s right, Islam, unlike what President Bush tried to convey as a religion of peace, is actually the religion of satan himself.

I called the White House comment line and used the words “terrorist/terrorism” several times in my comment. I demanded that 0 address the issue. The older woman had to ask me to repeat where the incident had occured (obvious she had heard nothing about it). Not that it was worth my breath or using my breaktime to do it. . . .

Discussing the "hate crimes" bill, Debby Wasserman-Schultz said Veterans Are Not "Real Victims", i.e. only gays, minorities, women, etc. are "real victims."
