Ex-congressman's brother tasted political victory behind the scenes

At first glance, Mose Jefferson embodies an archetype of American politics: the man who makes a living, and a life, by attaching himself like a parasite to a famous and powerful relative fortunate enough to win office. The truth is more complicated. While his once-formidable stroke was derived from the political success of his younger brother, former U.S. Rep. William Jefferson, the reverse was true as well.
For it was Mose Jefferson, 66, who cut his teeth on politics first, learning the tricks of the trade as a Democratic Party field lieutenant in one of Chicago's most storied -- some would say notorious -- political operations before returning to steer his brother's campaigns in New Orleans.
He learned the craft well. Detractors and admirers alike agree that from the xearly 1980s until Hurricane Katrina, Mose Jefferson was one of the city's premier political tacticians. The organization he ran, the Progressive Democrats, with William Jefferson as its standard-bearer, grew into one of the city's most potent forces.
But Katrina eroded the organization's power, and federal grand juries may have destroyed it. William Jefferson, charged with 16 bribery-related felonies, will be tried in Virginia starting June 9. Mose Jefferson, though never elected to office, has been accused of political corruption in two separate indictments, the second of which was expanded last week to include his longtime companion, Renee Gill Pratt. He has pleaded innocent in both cases and declined to be interviewed for this story.
The second indictment also implicates Betty Jefferson, a New Orleans assessor and elder sister of both Mose and William; Angela Coleman, her daughter; and Gill Pratt, a former City Council member and state representative.

The Chi-town connection grows.
Wasn't the "progressive democrats" the name the CP took in Chicago to become electable in IL.....Looks like it floated down river to NOLA. Somewhere in this mess is the making of a book....now if we could only find a publisher....Naw no one would ever believe it....stranger than fiction.
PWW (People's Weekly World) is a Communist Party USA publication. I don't know what, if any, connections there are between CPUSA, Progressive Democrats of America (Illinois) and/or William Jefferson. I haven't looked into it.
Progressive Democrats of America Illinois conference
With the revived prospects for the Democratic Party no longer apparently facing Karl Rove's permanent Republican majority a growing number of politically committed people have asked the question, "What would or should a resurrected Democratic Party look like?" There are a variety of answers to this question, e.g., the Democratic Leadership Council's centrist conception, the Blue Dogs' Republican lite, etc.
One of the more promising visions that has emerged is represented by Progressive Democrats of America (PDA), a national organization that emerged out of the Kucinich for President 2004 campaign. PDA is still quite fragile, even with its estimated 100,000 members, but its "inside, outside" strategy vis à vis the Democratic Party has the potential for linking together and giving voice to a large number of groups engaged in their own issues, e.g., the war and occupation, health care, the housing meltdown, etc., under the aegis of a reformed and remade national Democratic Party.
Only time and political struggle will answer the question of whether this strategy is actually viable. This short report is an account of one piece of that effort: the first state-wide PDA conference in Illinois.
The conference occurred on June 28th at the Marvel Davis Farm near Big Rock, Illinois. You can be forgiven for not being quite sure where that is, but note two things about the location: it is not in Chicago and the farm is located where Dennis Hastert's Prairie State Expressway is proposed to run. In fact, Marvel Davis, the farm's owner, offered the site for free because she had met and supported John Laesch, a PDA supported-candidate who ran against Hastert in 2006 and was narrowly beaten by centrist Democrat Bill Foster in the 2008 primary.
The theme of the conference was "More and Better Democrats" with much emphasis on the better, especially by the end of the day. An equally important impetus for the conference was the desire to bring various groups to the same venue to explore how we could all work together. In addition to PDA, DSA, Democracy For America. MoveOn, these groups included local peace and justice groups and grass roots level Democratic Party activists. Altogether, about 75 people gathered from the northern and western portions of the state.
The opening panel, "Progressives, Democrats, November 2008 and Beyond" included representatives from the full range of conference attendees. The panelists did a good job of talking about their own organizations and the work they were doing that fits into the progressive label, and a less thorough job of spelling out how we could all work together of course, if it were easy to answer that question there would have been no need for the conference. There were break out sessions in the both the morning and afternoon on "Ending the Death Penalty in Illinois." "Winning Single Payer Health Care in Illinois," "Next Steps in Working against the War and Occupation," "Causes and Progressive Policies Responses to the Financial and Economic Crisis," and "Grass Roots Electoral Skills." All were interesting and stimulated discussion among the attendees. Check the PDA web site (http://www.pdaillinois.org http://www.pdaillinois.org/ ) for outlines from the sessions.
Stephen Kinzer, formerly New York Times correspondent and author of All the Shah's Men: An American Coup and the Roots of Middle East Terror, delivered the keynote, entitled "Advice for the Next President and the Democrats." The final session was on working together how, when and where. Most of the discussion revolved around supporting progressive candidates at the local and state level and how to determine whether a candidate actually merited the label "progressive." No definitive answers, but in the short time since the conference some of the groups have initiated conversations about closer working relationships. We'll see what happens as the political year 2008 "progresses."

It certainly bears investigating. ACORN got started in New Orleans during this time frame, too.
Found this list...of who's who in Chacogo...wonder how many folks belong to several groups.

With the New Partys rise and its entanglements with ACORN [Association of Community Organizers For Reform Now] came the rise of Barack Obama. According to Stanley Kurtz, Acorn is the key modern successor of the radical 1960s New Left, with a 1960s-bred agenda of anti-capitalism to match. And Barack Obama was ACORNs lawyer.

From Obama's official website:
When Obama met with ACORN leaders in November, he reminded them of his history with ACORN and his beginnings in Illinois as a Project Vote organizer, a nonprofit focused on voter rights and education. Senator Obama said, "I come out of a grassroots organizing background. That's what I did for three and half years before I went to law school. That's the reason I moved to Chicago was to organize. So this is something that I know personally, the work you do, the importance of it. I've been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career. Even before I was an elected official, when I ran Project Vote voter registration drive in Illinois, ACORN was smack dab in the middle of it, and we appreciate your work.
ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) is the nation's largest community organization of low- and moderate-income families, with over 350,000 member families organized into 800 neighborhood chapters in 104 cities across the country. Since 1970 ACORN has taken action and won victories on issues of concern to its members, including better housing for first time homebuyers and tenants, living wages for low-wage workers, more investment in our communities from banks and governments, and better public schools.

Archives prove Obama was a New Party member (updated)
Thomas Lifson
Another piece in the puzzle of Barack Obama has been revealed, greatly strengthening the picture of a man groomed by an older generation of radical leftists for insertion into the American political process, trading on good looks, brains, educational pedigree, and the desire of the vast majority of the voting public to right the historical racial wrongs of the land.
The New Party was a radical left organization, established in 1992, to amalgamate far left groups and push the United States into socialism by forcing the Democratic Party to the left. It was an attempt to regroup the forces on the left in a new strategy to take power, burrowing from within. The party only lasted until 1998, when its strategy of "fusion" failed to withstand a Supreme Court ruling. But dissolving the party didn't stop the membership, including Barack Obama, from continuing to move the Democrats leftward with spectacular success.

DiscoverTheNetworks.org/FrontPageMag.com profile doesn't (yet?) include the latest revelation that Sen Obama was actually a member of the New Party.-ETL
PROFILE: NEW PARTY (NP)
* Marxist political coalition
* Was active from 1992-1998
* Endorsed Barack Obama for Illinois state senate seat in 1996
Co-founded in 1992 by Daniel Cantor (a former staffer for Jesse Jackson's 1988 presidential campaign) and Joel Rogers (a sociology and law professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison), the New Party was a Marxist political coalition whose objective was to endorse and elect leftist public officials -- most often Democrats. The New Party's short-term objective was to move the Democratic Party leftward, thereby setting the stage for the eventual rise of new Marxist third party.
Most New Party members hailed from the Democratic Socialists of America and the militant organization ACORN. The party's Chicago chapter also included a large contingent from the Committees of Correspondence, a Marxist coalition of former Maoists, Trotskyists, and Communist Party USA members.
The New Party's modus operandi included the political strategy of "electoral fusion," where it would nominate, for various political offices, candidates from other parties (usually Democrats), thereby enabling each of those candidates to occupy more than one ballot line in the voting booth. By so doing, the New Party often was able to influence candidates' platforms. (Fusion of this type is permitted in seven states -- Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Mississippi, New York, South Carolina, and Vermont -- but is common only in New York.)
Though Illinois was not one of the states that permitted electoral fusion, in 1995 Barack Obama nonetheless sought the New Party's endorsement for his 1996 state senate run. He was successful in obtaining that endorsement, and he used a number of New Party volunteers as campaign workers.
In 1996, three of the four candidates endorsed by the New Party won their electoral primaries. The three victors included Barack Obama (in the 13th State Senate District), Danny Davis (in the 7th Congressional District), and Patricia Martin, who won the race for Judge in the 7th Subcircuit Court. All four candidates attended an April 11, 1996 New Party membership meeting to express their gratitude for the party's support.
The New Party's various chapters similarly helped to elect dozens of other political candidates in a host of American cities.
One of the more notable New Party members was Carl Davidson, a Chicago-based Marxist who became a political supporter of Barack Obama in the mid-1990s.
In 1997 the New Party's influence declined precipitously after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that electoral fusion was not protected by the First Amendment's freedom of association clause. By 1998 the party was essentially defunct. Daniel Canto and other key party members went on to establish a new organization with similar ideals, the Working Families Party of New York.

New Party Online News - Elections Update
In the end the outcome was predictable, and predictably depressing. Voting for Clinton while simultaneously supporting the local Republican Congressman was not contradictory. My personal favorite line: With these results, I'd better get some of that medicinal marijuana...
So we're back where we were a few days ago. Gingrich sets the agenda, Clinton rotates it a few degrees to make it palatable. Our task, and there are no shortcuts, is to build enough power to produce better choices in the future.
A few more steps down that road were taken by local New Party chapters on Tuesday. Here are some highlights:
Overall: Campaign finance led the way, with overwhelming victories in Arkansas and Massachusetts. Not counting Washington, DC's ANC races, NP members and supported candidates won 16 of 23 races, bringing our overall total to 110 victories in 163 races.
Arkansas: As local favorite Bill Clinton swept to victory under cloud of tainted contributions, an NP and ACORN-backed statewide initiative for real campaign finance reform won an overwhelming victory, outpolling Clinton and Perot combined. The measure lowers contribution limits to $300 for statewide candidates and $100 for state legislative and local candidates, grants a tax credit for small donors, and tightens reporting and disclosure requirements. It'll be a big step in leveling the playing field for grassroots candidates against their corporate funded opponents. And in the first city-wide victory for a New Party candidate in Little Rock, member Paul Kelly won an at-large City Council seat. He'll join NP members Gloria Wilson and Willie Hinton on the Council, with the potential for a strong progressive caucus. In a second at-large City Council race, NP member Genevieve Stewart made a strong showing. She finished third against 2 entrenched incumbents but built her name recognition and a base of support for a possible ward race for City Council next year. Finally, in a classic New Party vs. the Right Wing matchup, member Jayne Cia handily defeated the Arkansas state chair of Empower America (Bill Bennett's organization) for a seat on the County Board.
Illinois: The first NP member heads to Congress, as Danny Davis wins an overwhelming 85% victory yesterday (he got a higher percentage of the vote in that district than the President). NP member and State Senate candidate Barack Obama won uncontested. Interestingly, it appears that the local Democratic machine is trying to distance itself from our folks. At a "Democratic Unity" march on Chicago's West Side, a flyer invited community members to join with a host of local democratic candidates. The only two west-side Democrats not listed: NP members Danny Davis (U.S. House candidate) and Michael Chandler (Alderman and Ward Committeeman). ..."

Inside Obamas Acorn:
By their fruits ye shall know them
Stanley Kurtz, May 29, 2008
"What if Barack Obamas most important radical connection has been hiding in plain sight all along? Obama has had an intimate and long-term association with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (Acorn), the largest radical group in America. If I told you Obama had close ties with MoveOn.org or Code Pink, youd know what I was talking about. Acorn is at least as radical as these better-known groups, arguably more so. Yet because Acorn works locally, in carefully selected urban areas, its national profile is lower. Acorn likes it that way. And so, Id wager, does Barack Obama."

Obamas Communist Mentor
AIM Column | By Cliff Kincaid | February 18, 2008
excerpt...
"through Frank Marshall Davis, Obama had an admitted relationship with someone who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis, listening to his 'poetry' and getting advice on his career path. But Obama, in his book, Dreams From My Father, refers to him repeatedly as just 'Frank.'
The reason is apparent: Davis was a known communist who belonged to a party subservient to the Soviet Union. In fact, the 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities to the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii identified him as a CPUSA member. What's more, anti-communist congressional committees, including the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), accused Davis of involvement in several communist-front organizations."
Frank Chapman, a CPUSA supporter, has written a letter to the party newspaper hailing the Illinois senator's victory in the Iowa caucuses:
"Obamas victory was more than a progressive move; it was a dialectical leap ushering in a qualitatively new era of struggle. Marx once compared revolutionary struggle with the work of the mole, who sometimes burrows so far beneath the ground that he leaves no trace of his movement on the surface. This is the old revolutionary 'mole,' not only showing his traces on the surface but also breaking through."

Barack Obama, Frank Marshall Davis, Vernon Jarrett - One Degree of Seperation
New Zeal blog ^ | Oct 17, 2008 | Trevor Loudon
"Why did Barack Obama move to Chicago? Why did he choose a city famous for its corruption and distrust of outsiders as a launching pad for his political career? Did Obama's boyhood mentor, life long communist Frank Marshall Davis influence that choice?"
http://newzeal.blogspot.com/2008/10/obama-file-38-barack-obama-frank.html
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
From the Traditional Values Coalition, March 13, 2008:
"At some point in the 1970s when Barack was attending school in Hawaii, he became acquainted with Frank Marshall Davis, a member of the Communist Party, USA. Davis had moved to Hawaii in 1948 from Chicago where he had been involved in Marxist-related activities.
In Hawaii, he became a mentor to Barack Obama, the man who seeks the Presidency of the United States.
Kathryn Waddell Takara, Ph.D., a Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Hawaii, has written at least two lengthy analysis of Frank M. Daviss political activities both in Hawaii and while he was living in Chicago. Takara created the first Black Studies department at the U of H in 1971 and is an associate of such notable leftists as Angela Davis and Stokely Carmichael.
Takaras paper, 'Frank Marshall Davis: Black Labor Activist and Outsider Journalist: Social Movements In Hawaii,' describes Davis radical activities in Hawaii as both a writer and labor organizer.
How this committed Communist became a mentor to Barack Obama remains a mystery, but it is likely that his mother was somehow involved in far left activities in Hawaii and met Davis through her left-wing network on the University of Hawaii campus. Perhaps an enterprising reporter could ask Senator Obama how he met Davis and what sort of influence he may have had on him. Likewise, one can only speculate on the influence his rebellious, left-wing mother had on his political beliefs and aspirations.

William Jennings “Dollar Bill” JEFFERSON, federal representative for Louisiana’s 2nd congressional district, was born in Lake Providence, Louisiana, on 14 March 1947. 2006jul25.
Stock and money were criminally, indirectly paid to Louisiana’s federal representative William Jennings “Bill” Jefferson by paying a company owned by Jefferson’s children and controlled by his wife (Andrea Green Jefferson is the corporation’s manager). The corporation, The ANJ Group L.L.C. (Louisiana charter/organization ID 35029844K), has registered agent Jack Swetland. Swetland is an accountant who has worked for William Jefferson and some of his closest political allies (including some of his relatives). Jefferson also, indirectly got illicit payments through a similar, Ghanian company. Some of the bribery may have related to business opportunities for broadband communications.
Brett M. Pfeffer, a former aide of Jefferson, was president of a McLean, Virginia, investment company. He and Jefferson agreed that Jefferson would help Nigerian company W2-IBBS (W2-International Broadband Services Ltd.) in exchange for bribes paid to Jefferson’s daughters. One of Jefferson’s daughters, a lawyer, may have helped create W2-IBBS (according to FBI special agent Timothy R. Thibault’s 18 May 2006 affidavit in support of issuance of a search warrant for William Jefferson’s Rayburn House Office Building room 2113; page 7, footnote 6, in District of Columbia federal court case 06-231 M-01.). Supposedly, the bribes were that Jefferson’s daughter-lawyer would be on the payroll of Pfeffer’s investment company (paid a monthly retainer of about $2500 to $5000), Jefferson’s daughters would be given several percent of W2-IBBS, legal work would go to a member of Jefferson’s family (a member other than the above-mentioned daughter-lawyer), and political contributions would be paid to William Jefferson’s daughter (Louisiana state legislator Jalila Jefferson-Bullock). By the way, we think that the several percent would be held through the daughters’ African company, GEES (Global Energy and Environmental Services LLC), which would be run by Jefferson’s son-in-law.
William has five daughters: Jamila, Jalila, Jelani, Nailah, and Akilah. Jamila is an Egyptian girl’s name from Arabic meaning beauty. Jalila is an Arabic girl’s name meaning great. Jelani is a girl’s name (or it is an African boy’s name meaning mighty). Nailah is an Egyptian girl’s name meaning successful. Akilah is an Arabic girl’s name meaning bright, intelligent. We guess that the Cub Scout Akila (”The Cub Scout follows Akila ....”) may possibly come from Akila, leader of the wolf pack, in Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. We guess that a former, American Cub Scout would not name his daughter Akilah. We guess that William Jefferson was not in the Cub Scouts.
Three of the five daughtters seem to be lawyers: Jamila (lawyer with Jones Walker law firm, also supposedly a human resources manager at Harrah’s New Orleans casino), Jalila (state legislator), and Jelani (judge’s clerk in federal trial court in New Orleans).
Here is a little information about each of the daughters.
1. Jamila
Jamila E. Jefferson: Harvard Law School 1997, born about 1974, William Jefferson’s oldest daughter, a New Orleans lawyer who worked for Jones Walker law firm. She does not seem to have been a lawyer in Nigeria or Virginia (where Pfeffer’s investment company has its headquarters). She has been on Louisiana’s Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee. Supposedly, she now may be a human resources manager at Harrah’s New Orleans casino. We don’t know her expertise in human resources management or the casino industry. She is interested in inernational mergers and acquisitions.
Supposedly, she, Vernon L. Jackson (a Kentuckian who bribed her father in conjunction with a Nigerian busines opportunity, and who contributed to her state legislator sister’s campaign), and Herbert O. Orji (CEO of Summa Guaranty and Trust Company, in Nigeria) have been listed as board members and investors in GCC (Gridline Communications Corporation). On 24 July 2006, she and Orji were (according to former URL www.easyir.com/easyir/bofd.do?easyirid=7CC11D157762D610) still on the GCC board. GCC, which has headquarters in Sugarland (Texas), wants to provide BPL (broadband over power line) technology to power companies. GCC offers to help power companies earn extra money by providing broadband communications to power customers.
According to the Times-Picayune website, “According to a December 2004 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Jamila Jefferson had 492,244 shares of stock in Gridline, while Jackson had 10.3 million shares.” How much did Jamila and her father William pay for those shares?

2. Jalila
Jalila Esle Jefferson-Bullock: Harvard Law School 2001, member of Louisiana’s state House of Represetatives representing New Orleans district 91, has been an attorney at New Orleans’s Murray Law Firm. On 24 July 2006, we guess that she is not a lawyer in Nigeria or Virginia (where Pfeffer’s investment company is headquartered). Read about her uncle (her mother’s brother), judge Alan Green, below.

3. Jelani F.
Jelani F. Jefferson: Harvard Law School 2004, clerk for New Orleans’s U.S. District Judge Eldon E. Fallon. Search warrants related to William Jefferson were issued by the federal 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, not by the federal trial court in New Orleans. Usually, warrants are issued by a trial court, not an appellate court. Maybe the FBI avoided the federal trial court in New Orleans because Jelani (William Jefferson’s daughter) works there. She seems to have married Kevin Sheppard on about 2 August 2004.
JELANI JEFFERSON, 2424 CONSTANCE ST, 01/01/2006, NEW ORLEANS, LA 70130. Orleans parish. (504) 891-9596, (504) 896-8946. She may own this. This property is a homestead. The owner claims to live here.

4. Nailah
Nailah was the 2005 queen of the 57th Washington [District of Columbia] Mardi Gras Celebration. Someone with that name may be a student at Boston University (near where Nailah’s father and sisters went to school).
NAILAH A JEFFERSON Born Dec 1981, 2424 CONSTANCE ST, 08/14/2002, NEW ORLEANS, LA 70130, (504) 896-8946. This is owned by her sister, Jelani F. Jefferson.
5. Akilah
Akilah seems to be a Brown University alumna who attended an activity of the Brown Club of New Orleans. People with her name may be involved with Our Bodies Ourselves and may work at Gallagher Lab, Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, Johns Hopkins University.
AKILAH JEFFERSON, 416 BROOK ST, 09/01/2005, PROVIDENCE, RI 02906, (401) 270-5391.
AKILAH L JEFFERSON, STATE COLLEGE, PA 16803, (814) 861-nnnn
William Jefferson has other relatives, some involved in politics.
1. New Orleans judge Alan Green, who is William Jefferson’s brother-in-law (Alan’s sister Andrea is William’s wife), supposedly was video taped getting an eight hundred dollar, cash contribution for his niece (state legislator Jalila Jefferson, who is William Jefferson’s daughter). The eight hundred dollars supposedly never got from judge Green to Jalila Jefferson’s campaign. The cash payment was made in the judge’s office by a lawyer wih a court case before the judge. Later, the judge decided the case for that lawyer’s client, awarding that client even more money (1.82 million dollars) than his lawyer had requested (1.73 million dollars).
2. William’s parents are Mose Jefferson and Angeline Harris Jefferson, both dead. Do not confuse William’s brother and dead father, both named Mose.
3. Willaim’s sister, Alice Jefferson Montgomery, was an administrator.
4. William’s brother, Archie L. Jefferson, became a lawyer in 1987 and was disbarred in 2004.
5. William’s sister, Barbara Jefferson Jackson, teaches in Louisiana.
6. William’s brother, Bennie Lee Jefferson, is married to civil district court Judge Carolyn Gill Jefferson. They have three children: Steven, Bennie II (why not “Bennie Jr.”?), and Angeline (perhaps named after her paternal grandmother).
She will resign, or has resigned, from her judgeship to spend more time with her children (which sounds dubious to us). It has been speculated that her resignation is related to her supposedly having signed off on a local scandal involving a Dodge Durango SUV (described in the below discussion of Mose Jefferson). The scandal involves former city councilwoman Renee Gill Pratt. We don’t know if judge Carolyn Gill Jefferson is related to former councilwoman Renee Gill Pratt. For campaign finance disclosures, the two politicians use the same accountant, CPA Jack Swetland, who is also William Jefferson’s accountant.

Next door to Betty’s house on Jackson Avenue, there was an illegally demolished house owned by a corporation run by her brother, Archie L. Jefferson. He was fined twenty-five thousand dollars for the demolition.
8. William’s sister Brenda Jefferson (also known as Brenda Foster) is contact person for JEFF-CO CONTRACTORS INC, a New Orleans construction company specializing in highway, street, and bridge construction (a specialty in which government agencies often are customers). This is an SBA-certified company with SBA case number 107124.
There is a Louisiana company: 35875980K 02/11/2005; BACA SERVICES, LLC 3313 S. SARATOGA ST. NEW ORLEANS, LA 70115; Agent: BRENDA JEFFERSON 3313 S. SARATOGA ST. NEW ORLEANS, LA 70115; Member/Manager ANBREANNA FOSTER, 3313 S. SARATOGA ST. NEW ORLEANS, LA 70115.
We guess that the three members (Christina, Ayana, and Anbreanna) are Brenda’s children or other relatives. Christina is a niece of William Jefferson. Someone in Louisiana named “Ayana Jefferson” lost a dog: “Germ Shep-’Lucky’- 11 mos. br/bl saddle back Call Ayana Jefferson @ 985-351-210 [sic]” (according to information which was at URL http://www.sttammanyhumanesociety.org/1050531.html).
That address (3313 S. Saratoga) is listed for Brenda’s niece: JALILA E JEFFERSON, 3313 SARATOGA ST, 03/11/2004, NEW ORLEANS, LA 70115. (504) 896-8354
9. William’s sister, Delois Jefferson Tucker, teaches in Chicago, Illinois, public schools. By the way, in America, there once was an American brand of car called Tucker.
10. William’s brother Mose “Mos Jef” Jefferson has helped relatives (for example, his state legislator sister) campaign for office. Do not confuse him with his dead father, also named Mose. Mose Jefferson runs Orleans Metropolitan Housing and Community Development Inc. (a nonprofit organization which gets much help from government) and owns a company which is a landlord.
By the way, Mose Jefferson is involved in an SUV scandal in New Orleans. There are somewhat different versions of the scandal. We’ll tell you one version, no tnecessarily the most accurate. After Katrina, an auto dealer gave away some SUVs. The recipients were chosen after listening to the advice of William Jefferson and another, federal representative. The SUVs were supposed to be used for emerencies (police, fire, etc.) and other, serious, government business, not as fringe benefits for big shots. City councilwoman Renee Gill Pratt wrongly took one for rher own use. Just before the April 2006 primary election, she realized that she would lose the primary and therefore soon be out of a job. She gave (or arrnaged for the city to give) the city-owned car to a nonprofit organization (Care Unlimited) run by her boyfriend Mose Jefferson. After she stopped being a councilwoman, Care Unlimited hired her and told her she could drive the car she had earlier donated (or arranged for the city to donate). Thus, she had changed employers but was still driving the same, employer-owned car. When people asked her how this had happened, she said, “Sometimes God puts things in places for you.”. Many people complained. Eventually, she arranged for Care Unlimitd to give the car back to New Orleans city. She and Mose both are part of William Jefferson’s political faction. We don’t necessarily understand this scandal perfectly.
Owner Name PRATT RENEE’ G, Address 1718 TOLEDANO ST, City / State / Zip NEW ORLEANS LA 70115. Homestead: owner Pratt claims to live here.
Pratt Renee G, 3311 ANNUNCIATION ST. Owner Pratt does not claim to live here. The owner’s correspondence address is on Toledano.

We may not have perfectly described how some of Jefferson’s relatives were involved in his bribery and other activities. William Jefferson illustrates the need to legally find out about government officers’ relatives and former employees.
