PHOENIX, May 31 (UPI) -- Former Republican presidential hopeful John McCain says he's not taking anything for granted in seeking a fifth U.S. Senate term in Arizona in 2010.
After spending two years on the presidential campaign trail, in recent months McCain has been crisscrossing Arizona to reconnect with state voters, The Arizona Republic reported Sunday.
McCain has retooled his Web site, opened a Senate campaign office in Phoenix and raised $3.6 million for his war chest, the Republic reported.
"I'm very pleased with the response that I've gotten when traveling around the state, so I'm confident I'll do well," McCain said. "But I'm not taking anything for granted."
McCain so far faces two Republican primary challengers. Chris Simcox is the founder of the border watch group Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, while challenger Jim Deakin describes himself as a Navy veteran and "successful small businessman."

The time for pragmatism and compromise is long past. Purge McCain! |

There’s no runoff in AZ. It benefits McCain to have as many challengers (from the right) as possible so he wins by a plurality. We need to settle on one STRONG challenger to take him down.

No dog in this fight myself but you are absolutely correct. I like Simcox but would love to see JD Hayworth make a run at the seat.

Let us know what we can do to get McKennedy OUT, OUT, OUT, DAMMED SPOT of the Republican party.

I’d support either one, but then again, I am blinded by loathing for McCain.
You are right though. If conservatives split their votes between multiple candidates, McCain might emerge from the wreckage intact, just like he did in 2008.

The GOP establishment (egged on by the left wing media) picked Captain Queeg for us in 2008, and the result was the Messiah, Lord Barry Hussein I. The very least that should happen is that Captain Queeg should be forcibly retired from the Senate. His wife has plenty of beer money, so life wont be hard.

I hope he gets his ass kicked if for any other reason simply that his plus sized young republican valley girl will STFU!

More challengers gives the advantage to McCain, as they ‘water down’ the opposition vote.
That is what gave McCain the GOP nomination in 08 — enough other contenders to ‘water down’ the opposition vote.
Do AZ politicians have enough sense to settle on one strong contender to challenge McCain?
SC didn’t against McCain’s anal appendage, Lindsey Graham.
