VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A strange twist in a Virginia Beach shooting investigation Friday. Police tell WAVY.com a burglary victim grabbed one of the suspects' guns and used it to fire at them.
As police search for the three suspects who got away, two nearby schools are on lockdown as a precaution: White Oaks Elementary School and Parkway Elementary School.
Officers were called to the 4100 block of OHare Drive at 10:45 a.m. Friday on a burglary call. A couple minutes later, a shooting call came in, just down the street, according to police spokesperson Adam Bernstein.
Police say the calls are connected.
Bernstein described how it all unfolded,"We have a gentleman who was home alone in his house. He sees people outside and doesn't recognize them. They then force entry into his house. He begins to fight with them. We have four guys at least.
Two were armed. During the fight, the homeowner gets shot at, but he was not struck. He was able to obtain one of the guns from one of the suspects. He begins to shoot at the suspects. All the suspects flee the house.
One of the suspects was shot.
He collapsed about 100-150 yards away from the initial scene. He has been taken to the hospital, but he is in police custody for being a burglary suspect. We are still out here looking for three other suspects involved in this."

She saw one of the jackasses run down our street and hop a fence.
She came in the house and was so hyped up , she was speechless, (believe me, that's a rare state for her).
I asked her what was wrong, all she could say was, "They're shooting !"
I called to report shots fired. The 911 line was busy ! Several neighbors must have called at the same time. Because the cops showed up while I was on the phone.
The wounded thug was laying in the gutter across the street from my house.
At that time I didn't know he'd been hit.
A crazy day in the 'hood yo!
Good time to get her OK to purchase another firearm.
A wounded animal will always return to familiar territory.
I’m glad you and your wife were OK. Exciting times.
Correct. The homeowner as well as the thugs.
Wow,what a day you guys had
Hope the perp that went through the window left a bloody trail
I gotta buy some more 9mm ammo
“Good time to get her OK to purchase another firearm.”
9 mm ammo? Where you gonna find that anymore? ;-)
I think the fellow who posted this story should have taken a shovel out his garage and finished off the perp laying in the gutter.
Or pump 5 shots into him. No, slow down on that one.
If this happens to you, assuming you have a gun within reach, do you grab your gun and lie in wait till they burst in, then holler at them to get on the ground or you'll shoot?
Or do you start popping off rounds, going down the line till the threat is gone?
AR 15 sounds about right?
Cowboy up!
FAIL
We were getting ready to go somewhere and we were going to take her car, which is in the driveway. She went outside to clear some stuff out of her car and was on the side of our house, dumping some trash.
If we had taken my truck, which is parked on the street, we'd have been in much closer proximity to the thugs.
With the state of the government these days, the homeowner will probably be charged with assault with a deadly weapon and with stealing the perps gun. LOL!
It’d be cool if he got to keep the gun. If he already has a carry permit, is there any potential downside?
I hope the cops are able to catch the other thugs.
Now my question is why did four thugs think they could pull this off and why. they busted into this guy's house?
I've lived here for 25 yrs. So many people have moved in and out of the neighborhood, I don't keep up with who is who and what they're up to.
