Reporting from Washington -- The FBI and Justice Department plan to significantly expand their role in global counter-terrorism operations, part of a U.S. policy shift that will replace a CIA-dominated system of clandestine detentions and interrogations with one built around transparent investigations and prosecutions.

Under the "global justice" initiative, which has been in the works for several months, FBI agents will have a central role in overseas counter-terrorism cases. They will expand their questioning of suspects and evidence-gathering to try to ensure that criminal prosecutions are an option, officials familiar with the effort said.

How can they expand their role in anti-terrorism operations? Hundreds of agents are being reassigned to white collar/financial crimes units.

Where are they going to get trained and experienced agents in a hurry? MacDonald’s?

They did a great job saving New York City from a terror attack a few weeks ago. I am thankful for that.

According to Dims, terrorism is solely a law enforcement problem.

The NY City FBI agents have been in the field for years. However, other FBI agents who are in the anti-terrorism field were scheduled to be shifted out to fight economic crimes (no, not Obama’s appointees).

It takes many years to train an internal security specialist. You just don’t graduate them from a school and send them out in the field. You need to learn the playing field and who and where the enemy is.

Right now,Iraqi/Afghani veterans are viewed as the enemy by DHS-Napolitano.

What is wrong with this picture?

PS: I’ve been doing internal security investigations and reporting since 1968. I know what I’m talking about.

The CIA is not allowed to operate in this country, the FBI is. How elso do we root out terrorists like Tea Party attendies, conservatives and returning Vets?

This was how Clinton fought terroris, 9 months after he left office, Bush and the rest of us learned that it doesn’t work.
