A new Quinnipiac University poll finds that newly-minted Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter has a nine-point lead over Republican challenger Pat Toomey.
Specter, who changed his party afflilation to Democrat in April, leads Toomey by 46 percent to 37 percent among registered voters, the poll found. That's a narrower lead than a May 4 poll, which found Specter's lead at 53 percent to Toomey's 33 percent.
"Sen. Arlen Specter's numbers have slipped since the controversy that followed his switch to the Democratic Party, but he's still better off than he would have been if he stayed a Republican and faced a tough primary challenge from former Rep. Pat Toomey," Clay Richards, assistant director of the Quinnipiac Polling Institute said in a statement.

Supposedly any time an incumbent is below 50%, they are in trouble.
Excellent!
Next!
I still think Specter’s biggest problem is his health.
And his age.
I guess people just have to learn the hard way.
I don’t have much faith in PA voters.
These are the same people who voted for an unqualified Marxist ass after he said he was going to attack head-on, the industry that provides their livlihood.
They also favor landslide victories for traitorous, abjectly corrupt scum who calls them ignorant, racist rednecks.
Wonder where they get their poll numbers? I’m not a kid, been around, have friends, relatives and coworkers. I have yet to speak to anyone who has been polled...ever.
Hopefully Sestak announcing and carrying through on a primary run will bloody up Specter a little more.
In the end PA will look like it always does. Blue on the ends and red in the middle. Philadelphia county will have 150% Democrat voter turn-out.
Agreed, age is his biggest problem, just like any 'Rat: They all act as if they are four years old.
The poll numbers clearly do not reflect the 2,000% voter turnout in Philly. Praise be ACORN - may piss be upon them.
Flush the bum!
Go Pat!
While I’m glad Toomey is closing the gap, don’t you think polling data on an election this far out is pointless at this juncture?
It will all come down to the economy as it always does. If the economy has not made some major improvement by November 2010, the Democrats will suffer serious defeats.
After everything that boob has done and he’s STILL ahead!? Unbelievable how most in PA continue to show their ignorance on a continuous basis. I guess Murtha was right.
It’ll be interesting to see the remarkable improvement in the economy over the next year and a half. Whether it happens to be fact is not important. You can bet the reports will be rosy as hell before the midterms.
Yeah the “city of bruthas with guns” sure is civic minded.
