The blogosphere has, once again, proven itself a worthy investigator. Unsurprisingly, that same investigatory spirit is nearly nonexistent in the mainstream media.
This morning on Fox and Friends, Michelle Malkin gave an interview on a story that she and HotAir have been following for several days (video embedded to the right). Apparently, many of the Chrysler dealers that have been chosen for closing have made a habit of donating money to Republicans, or nobody at all and those who donate to Democrats are miraculously safe.
Why is it miraculous? The odds are massively against this pattern emerging to the tune of 1/10,000,000 of 1% [h/t Doug Ross]. By comparison, you have a better chance of being struck by lightning this year ...

One of the repub congressmen should call for hearings even though it wont happen it cannot hurt!
Foxnews had it on all morning.
If this is true I’ll NEVER drive another Chrysler. Let em die.
The dealerships axed should have been based on profitability alone.
There are only 31 Republicans in the House. With 1 in the Senate.
“profitability?”.....BAAAWWWAAAHHHHHHHH....that doesn’t FEEEEELLLL very good....
I bought my last Chrysler in 2007.
This is the nail in the coffin for me.
There was no need to axe any dealers at all. Those that ceased to be profitable would have shut down of their own accord. And the more dealers stay open, the more cars they can sell.
This entire thing was a political move, and well as a decision designed to make the crisis worse.
The same thing happened to tobacco compainies.
They were BIG TIME Republican donors. HUGE amounts of money.
If they had donated to Democraps we would all be hearing about the healthful benefits of ‘bathing your lungs in cleansing smoke’
Get this information to the bankruptcy court.
If there is a bankruptcy trustee appointed in this ch 11, then the trustee has an affirmative duty to report and take action.
How does THE GOVERNMENT close a dealership?
They are privately owned. Either they are selling cars and making money, or they will fail and close of their own accord.
There is no such thing as Chrysler ‘keeping open’ dealerships that lose money, with the profits from others
from a letter following and a part of the article:
Steven Rattner is married to former National Finance Chair of Democratic Party, Maureen White.
Instapundit writes:
A reader notes something about car czar Steven Rattner: Rattner is married to Maureen White, the former National Finance Chair for the Democratic Party. The
comment: So one of the guys advising SecTreas on this thing is married
to someone who used to be one of the people in charge of fundraising
for the Democratic Party. This explains so much its scary. Well, it
bears a close look.
That doesn’t look good.
Welcome to Chicago! This is the way it works in Chicago and New York. I had a friend who was going to New York to work as an attorney. She was going to register Democrat because that was the best way to get a job.
In many small towns the car dealership is one of the large money enterprises. By tubing the conservative car dealerships they have eliminated a major funding source for local conservative candidates.
Obama axed them to leave..
You may want to rethink that. Since you and I and everyone else, is 70% owner in Chrysler now, we should be able to buy a new Chrysler at only 30% of it’s cost......right? AND.....we should get profit sharing, health insurance and retirement benefits. Of course we’ll need to all join the union now but with their benefits, that may not be a bad deal. I don’t know which of us would be in management but we can fight about that later. I never thought that I would own a car manufacturing company. Do I get a corner office?
Chrysler/Al Obama Motors will no longer be selling or shipping new cars to the listed dealers. I suppose they could remain open, but they won't be allowed to display any Chrysler/Al Obama logos, brand names, or any other advertising.
The fact that this is directly Marxist should be ignored.
