Well, I suppose they could think that, but they’re doing a better job of harming their community than whites ever could, and they can only blame themselves.

It's a strange thing, black women get abortions at 3x to 5x the rate of white women, AND YET back women in opinion polls come out more "pro-life" than white women. And way, WAY more pro-life than white men. In fact a plurality of balck women say abortion is outright murder.

What explains this extreme split betrween "belief" and "practice"??

I don't know! But I suspect that one or more of these factors could be in play. Maybe

• black women get more "unwanted" abortions, meaning abortions coerced on them by parents, boyfriends or husbands, or
• black women feel guiltier about it afterwards, maybe because a high percentage of black women are members of religious movements which are relatively socially conservative (Evangelical and Pentecostal), even if they vote liberal.

I do think that heroic pastors like Rev. Walter Hoye could tap into a HUGE number of black people who are perhaps conflicted and morally troubled by abortion. Any African American person can see that filling up clinic dumpsters with dead black babies is an attack on the heart of their community. (And--- speaking as a white person --- ours, too.)
