Group Begins Ad Blitz Against Same-Sex Marriage

The National Organization for Marriage, a conservative Christian group that has fought efforts to legalize in California and in the Northeast, has set its sights on New York with its latest media campaign.

Beginning Thursday in the New York City and Albany markets, the organization will run a 30-second television commercial that warns of unanticipated social consequences if the state allows gay couples to marry.

Echoing a theme that was used in turning public opinion against same-sex marriage in California in a vote last fall, the commercial suggests that children will be taught about homosexuality in schools.

“And it’s not just kids who face consequences,” the narrator says over foreboding music. “The rights of people who believe marriage means a man and a woman will no longer matter. We’ll have to accept gay marriage whether we like it or not.”

The commercial closes with a shot of the Capitol as the number for the State Senate switchboard flashes on the screen. The Senate must act in the next four weeks if it is to pass a same-sex marriage bill before the Legislature adjourns. The Assembly passed the bill this month, and Gov. David A. Paterson has pledged to sign it.

The National Organization for Marriage said its initial ad spending, which includes the television commercial and a radio spot, was just over $100,000. That campaign will run through Sunday.

The group said it hopes the commercial, which is intended to raise doubts about an argument made by advocates for same-sex marriage — that allowing gay couples to marry is simply a matter of fairness and equality — will give opponents a louder voice in a debate that has been dominated by the other side.

“We need to combat the relative vacuum on our side,”

Already, the National Organization for Marriage commercial has stirred controversy. WPIX-TV in New York has refused to run the ad, the group said. Officials at the station and the Tribune Company, which owns WPIX, did not respond to requests for comment.

Ping!

I hope it’s not the ads they were running before, with the storm clouds and the ominous voices. I was getting ‘look at this hysterical mess’ e-mails from other conservatives. It’s as if the ads were made by Saturday Night Live.

I channel surfed onto the ABC soap opera this week. Although I never watch soaps, this grabbed my attention. The scene was an elaborate gay marriage of two young and beautiful lesbians conducted by a woman priest. The audience was beaming. I don’t remember the priest closing words used instead of “You may kiss your bride.” As audience members made personal congratulations, the lovely “couple” were holding a small child (gay adoption plug).

I’m outraged at this pro-gay marriage agenda. I noted three advertisers of the show. They were Purina, Kellog’s Special K and Citrical. I’m sending them notice of returning their products to the stores for refunds. ABC will also be sent a message. I hope others will pass the word.

I forgot to include the program. It was “All My Children”.

I’m outraged at this pro-gay marriage agenda.

We're in the silent majority. We need a strong voice to back us up. Gays represent 1%?, 2%? of the population yet are extremely active in having their agenda legalized. They are united; where is the voice of the tradition based heterosexual American?

Ace of Cakes recently featured a wedding cake for two lesbians, both dressed in wedding gowns. I turned off the program.

Yeah, the storm ads were really poorly done.

I would urge everyone who is able to support NOM as generously as possible at this critical time. Maggie Gallagher is a powerhouse of logical reasoning against the homo-tide. The organization faces incredible odds against an absolutely vile enemy that follows no rules and will stop at nothing to pervert and subvert everything that has made this country great.

To the brave folks at NOM: My hat's off to you, and my wallet's open as wide as possible.
