Easy Activism for St. Louis area Freepers (re: Global Warming)

I learned today that the Saint Louis Science Center is and will be hosting an exhibit this summer called "Ends of the Earth: From Polar Bears to Penguins." The exhibit website, available here, has more information about it. While I'm sure the exhibit contains plenty of good information, according to the website it's purpose is to "highlight [the] climate change crisis."

I don't want to preach to the choir too much, but we've all seen politics done in the guise of science, and as a scientist, I don't like it one bit. And while the fact that the earth has warmed slightly over the last century is not controversial, just how much of that is attributable to human activity is. But as part of a tour of a green home, this exhibit will teach you ways to reduce your carbon footprint. Furthermore, even if we are warming the earth, whether that is a "crisis" is yet another question entirely.

Additionally, there are literally thousands of scientific subjects one could discuss in an exhibit. Why pick a topic that is so politically charged, with so many players in the game for reasons that have nothing to do with science?

Also, as detailed here, the Science Center receives public funding from property taxes.

I'm suggesting we write the Science Center President, Douglas King. The address for the Science Center is:

Saint Louis Science Center
5050 Oakland Avenue
St. Louis, MO 63110

There are many ways you could approach the issue. If you want to learn more about the topic first, NPR has recording of a debate entitled "Global Warming Is Not a Crisis." The exhibit is being sponsored by a developer of green buildings, so "The Climate-Industrial Complex" may also be relevant.

This is a traveling exhibit, so if any Freepers have seen it elsewhere, please comment. Web searches can also give you more information on it, like this.

It’s a splendid place with many wonderful exhibits. I just want them to stick to scientific education, and not engage in political indoctrination.

Make a sign showing the Maunder minimums and maximums, and wear a tee shirt that says ALGORE is a liar.

If they come near me, I will do that.

If C02 is a polutant can we arrest ALGORE?

Flipping idiot green mush brained dolts, get a GD clue!

Now I must burn or blow something up, besides, my passion in knowing that there are folks that are very, and so stupid, whenever I light so much as a firecracker off, that they pop a lib gasket, warms me to no end.

I wish stupid and ignorant people would not vote or complain. I’m not God, but if I was I’d export these green fools to the rainforest with only the clothes on thier back.

No, I think I have a few fireworks left, I’m ok.
