LONDON(AFP) (AFP) – US Energy Secretary Steven Chu said Tuesday the Obama administration wanted to paint roofs an energy-reflecting white, as he took part in a climate change symposium in London.
The Nobel laureate in physics called for a "new revolution" in energy generation to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

“Making roads and roofs a paler colour could have the equivalent effect of taking every car in the world off the road for 11 years, Chu said.
It was a geo-engineering scheme that was “completely benign” and would keep buildings cooler and reduce energy use from air conditioning, as well as reflecting sunlight back away from the Earth.”
As sanity check, if painting roofs white saves “11 car-years” of energy and it’s so easy, why don’t we do it already?

Gosh there are just so many things we can do to save the planet I don’t know where to begin.
Does it never snow in their world?
What will they use to paint over shingles?
Who will do this work?
Have they developed a white asphalt? Will their paint last very long on top of a road surface?

Better not talk about “black holes” or “niggardly” which is derived from the Latin and predates the “n” word by several hundred years,....but never mind that or any other historical fact or tidbit,.....
It’s only “feelin’s” that count, not any kind of reality, historical accuracy or logic, etc. that matter.

In all seriousness, I’m not sure how much of an effect this would actually have, since most of America isn’t covered by roofs.
They could make roads a paler color by using concrete exclusively, but would they ban black fog striping from such roads?
I grew up barefoot, so I feel I have expert status in this debate. Some of the roads were paved using white gravel and tar when I was a kid — you could walk on them barefoot in the summer without having to do the oo-owe dance. The black gravel pavements — no way you could walk more than about 100 feet, unless the parking space stripes were painted with white paint, and you used them.
Of course in the winter, the black pavement was free of ice, and the white pavement was a hazard . . .
One thing for sure, we don’t need the feds or the world court telling us what to do.
It kinda reminds me of the WWII nylon/rubber/pots & pans drives --- more about enlisting people in a common effort to sacrifice, keeping up the morale ... propaganda, if you will.
