Sotomayor's Radical Legal Group Helped Kill the Estrada Nomination

President Obama's radical new nominee to replace Associate Justice David Souter on the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor, used to serve on the board of LatinoJustice PRLDEF (White House backgrounder), one of the racial grievance groups that helped to sink the judicial nomination of Honduran-born Miguel Estrada in 2003.

Along with groups such as the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF), LatinoJustice fought a war of attrition against President George W. Bush's 2001 nomination of conservative Miguel Estrada, a Honduran-born immigrant, to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. Democrats in the Senate filibustered the nomination and a weary Estrada withdrew from consideration in 2003.

Today LatinoJustice PRLDEF, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit, hailed the nomination of Sotomayor on the basis of her ethno-cultural heritage. "As the second largest and fastest growing population in America, with a large pool of qualified individuals to choose from, it was wholly appropriate for the president to nominate a Hispanic," the group said in a written statement. (PDF)

According to the group's website, it gets some of its funding from George Soros's Open Society Institute.

A search of philanthropy databases reveals other significant donors to LatinoJustice to be Carnegie Corporation of New York ($1,025,000 since 2000), Ford Foundation ($2,280,000 since 2001), Rockefeller Foundation ($1,275,000 since 2000), and JPMorganChase Foundation ($70,000 since 2001).

Among radical left-wing groups, it has a fairly garden-variety agenda. A captive of identity politics, it pushes for enforced multiculturalism, diversity, bilingual public education, race-based gerrymandering of electoral districts, race-based employment quotas, tenants' rights, and illegal immigrants' rights.

LatinoJustice PRLDEF was known as the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund until last year when it filed Articles of Amendment with New York State to change its name.

This is not good, at ALL!!! Soros is now running this country. He is no better than any terrorist. In fact, he’s worse. His goal is to methodically steal tax payer dollars and destroy this country.

I have been saying this since Obama first graced us with his brilliance: he is the Soros-ian Candidate.
The crooked path paved with gold will always lead back to Soros.

The Rinos in goverment will lay down and this goofball will be on the bench.
And that will be a dark day on the collective soul of the country.

César Perales

Regan Morris
Lawcrossings
When César Perales took over as executive director of the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund two years ago, it was a triumphant homecoming. LawCrossing speaks to Mr. Perales about how the PLDEF has expanded its mandate to fight for justice for all Latinos.

In the early 1970s, Perales was an idealistic attorney fresh out of law school and eager to change the world. With two like-minded attorneys, he founded the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund (PRLDEF) in 1972.

Two years ago, after several decades in public interest and private sector positions, Perales returned to the center he founded—and he has been lauded for bringing the organization out of near financial ruin. Raising money for the nonprofit group is a big part of Perales’ job (LawCrossing met him at a unique fundraiser through the Latino Film Festival in New York).

Perales, who was born in New York, not Puerto Rico, said he was inspired to start the center because he saw many Puerto Rican children being ignored by the public school system and many adults struggling to seek justice. Puerto Ricans, Perales said, had no voice in the city’s public life.

“There was a lot of interest in the ‘60s and ‘70s about civil rights,” he said. “Other groups were forming organizations, and there were three very young lawyers at the time who wanted to start a legal organization that would bring lawsuits that would impact the Puerto Rican community.”

Nothing would surprise me about Soros, including have at hand a series of Leftist experts on every issue that Washington faces who create, develop, and mastermind with the most nefarious efficiency to bring America to its knees and that their ‘innovations’ are constantly being fed to Obama for his scrutiny and his unique way of presenting its attributes.

Has anyone ever wondered how insidiously effective Obama proposals are in bringing America one step closer to becoming a totalitarian state and how he could be so ‘perfect’ in developing these policies on his own?

"“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life,” said Judge Sotomayor."

Thereby attempting to elevate her moral authority above and beyond that of every white male associate justice on the Supreme Court (Roberts, Scalia, et. al.). These "white males" should be thrilled their opinions are held in such high regard by this upstart affirmative action nobody from a run of the mill law firm. Perhaps Clarence Thomas should ask Sotomayor for equal time to plead his case to be included with the white male justices just in case she's confused about where this superb justice stands on her sophomoric statement.

Nice start.

Only Democrat Latinos can get the little (TM) Sign thingie after Latino.

Because if they aren’t a Democrat, they can’t be a Latino (TM).

It almost seems like she is so over the top and not the brilliant mind some on the left had looked for that MAYBE she is a throw away and there is someone in the wings who is just as bad, but smarter and more discreet. Might that possibly be what is happening? I don’t trust these guys. We ended up with Janet Reno after that other nominee had the nanny problem and Reno was pretty disastrous and much worse to have to watch.

I don’t know if we can ever block Soros-mayor, but if we can’t, we need to taint her as much as possible.

Proving that the ethnic identity politics of the Democrats is just more unprincipled political hogwash. Latinos are only “good” if they say so. Just as some blacks are only black if certain groups say they are.

How many more identity support groups won't support those of their so-called identity?

NAA(L)CP

Labor Unions can play the deaf and dumb game too if a member doesn't support the liberal de-jour.

Absolutely correct! Look what the kook lefties did to Estrada, Alito, Roberts, Bork, Thomas, etc.

She should get no free pass!

"Welcome to the United States of MEXICO!"

Actually Sotomayor is Puerto Rican, not Mexican.

I'm not interested in your line of thinking since it has nothing to do with the Sotomayor nomination.
