New York Times reported that in 2001, at the annual Judge Mario G. Olmos Law and Cultural Diversity Lecture, Sotomayor had this to say:

“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

Before you dismiss that statement, read it this way: “I would hope that a wise white male with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latin woman who hasn’t lived that life.”

Blatant racism in the highest court in the land?

Slight correction, but an important one:
“I would hope that a wise white male with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latin woman female who hasn’t lived that life.”

Notice the subtle way her statement dehumanizes white men. She refers to her group as the wise Latin women but white men as mere white males.
