Be careful with Chrysler closure “hit list” claims (FR Mentioned)
Michelle Malkin ^ | 5-26-09 | Michelle Malkin

There have been several interesting and informative blog posts published recently on the Chrysler dealership closure “hit list.”

Posts by Joey Smith, Doug Ross, and on Free Republic shed light on the campaign contributions of the targeted dealers — who happen to lean Republican.

Is Obama capable of such Chicagoland thug tactics? Of course he is, and I’ve pointed out many cases of it over the past two years.

But I would caution against carried away with “Nixon enemies list” rhetoric until a thorough vetting of the dealers on the list is done — which may take a while, but can definitely be expedited through the same kind of crowd-sourcing that has already taken place.

----snip----

In any case, it’s too early to start painting them all as victims of a politically motivated witch hunt.

Keep digging.

It could just be a case where most car dealers tend to be republican in the first place but we need to keep an eye on the story. More digging-especially on the political donations of Chrysler dealers that survived the "cut" is needed.

To those researching this, please focus on low performing dealers that survived the "cut" and see if they can be tied to democrat donations. THATS where this story could really gain traction.

More than likely, their majority owners are comprised of a "federally protected class" of citizens.

Look what it takes to get contract in Chicago...

Good suggestion. Keep digging and keep your powder dry!

IMHO this whole Chrysler thing smells to high heaven.

Did someone look at the donations of those that survived?

I do know that Fort Pierce, Florida had Charlie’s Dodge and the owner is a known Republican and he had his dealership yanked.

Only way that this holds any water is if you can prodice a list of poorly preforming dealerships that survived the cuts and who also were Obama contributors. If that is not the case, this is an anomaly.

There is an Association of Minority Automobile Dealers..someone needs to work that list to see if they hung on better than others.

At this point I’m considering them to be victims of an overzealous and stupid government.

After all the dust settles it will be more interesting to check the “Diversity” of the dealerships and the auto manufactures.

I would guess that most people who run their own businesses but still WORK for a living (like dealers) would be republican. Democrats are mostly poor people who want other people’s money, and rich people who don’t have to work anymore and want to be loved and accepted and assuage their guilt by getting other people to do charity through taxes.

Michelle Malkin’s right. The analysis of the protected dealers hasn’t really started yet. I have some limited data on the Little Rock and Joplin, MO markets that suggests that “protected” dealers will be rewarded after some dealers who gave to GOP candidates close. However, I do not have widespread evidence that support the “Hit List” theory.
Also, we don’t know many of the GM dealers that will close as of yet.
It’s too early to declare that there is an “Obama Hit List” on the closing dealers.

I do hope that the digging will be done and Michelle's words of caution are important, especially given the great work she has done.

Regarding the Melbourne, Fla dealer ... a bit more data has come in. Sunshine Dodge / Isuzu did finish a major renovation at their dealership located on US 1 (locally known as Harbor City Blvd). South of Sunshine on the SW corner of US 1 and NASA Blvd is Osman Lincoln-Mercury Jeep who is reportedly losing their Jeep franchise. Head west on NASA Blvd a little way and after passing Lane Pontiac-Buick you find Gator Chrysler Suzuki, with Gator supposedly retaining their franchise and I guess picking up Dodge & Jeep from Sunshine and Osman respectively.

I wonder if Gator was told to jettison Suzuki as part of the deal. Maybe George C. Joseph will get it as a consolation prize.

Where Gator is going to put everything is a good question. They'll have to spend what Sunshine did to renovate their own shop unless the plan is to snap up Sunshine's property from the bankruptcy court. But that raises the question, why force dealers across America to make massive capital investments to consolidate their operations? How is that going to help anyone's profitability? I can see if this is an Obama move to use the shell of Chrysler to generate a building-trade stimulus. But is that in Chrysler's best interests? Is the new major stockholder going to Gordon-Gecko the business and leave Fiat with the carcass?

And what about all the dealer loyalty getting flushed down the crapper? This takes place in two weeks or less! Why the rush? What are customers supposed to do in the meantime for warranty work? It's multiple dozens of miles to the next intact dealership from Melbourne. Maybe they can use all that unsold inventory as courtesy cars to help with the 1 hour each way travel someone seeking authorized service face.

AFAIK, we're not talking about underperforming dealerships with lots of territorial overlap. If there is method to this madness, it would behoove Chrysler to educate the public as to how any of this makes sense.

Well here’s one: Russ Darrow Jr. who ran unsuccessfully agasint Herb Kohl for Senate from WI has a dealership on the closure list. One wonders if any Dems had a chance to “nominate” to the list?

I think it’s a moot point.
The Baraqqis are going to do whatever they want.
They’ve overridden the rule of law and the media is pretty much giving them a free pass.

Only changing Congress will slow them down.

Yes, but one of the ways you change Congress is to expose the dirty tricks of the party in power. This kind of thing, if true, will infuriate a lot of people who may have previously thought Obama had an ounce of integrity.

Think about the House Post Office scandal. It absolutely infuriated people because they knew it was something they would not do, even if they could get away with it. This was a relatively small abuse of power, compared to some, but it had a lot to do with the Repubs retaking the House.

I don't think it is a "moot" point, however I do agree that this administration and it's den of thieves is going to do just as it/they please.

But, by digging, and bringing up all the questionable acts, lies, cover-ups, contradictions, and Gestapo-like tactics, IS the only way we can change Congress. I think it is worse to cave in. Too much is to be lost. We might loose a battle or two over the next four years, but we can't afford to loose the war and our country's freedoms and liberties...along with capitalism.

Like most things that sound good to some people at first, Obama's policies and plans will suck people into his fog. Eventually, with continued exposes, as is being done by friends of the U.S. like Michelle Malkin, and others, and our own FReepers, people will become enlightened and not be so anxious to be totally controlled by a socialistic government. The pendulum will swing back (even though I acknowledge that I am personally very unhappy and upset, I try to hold onto hope!).

Indeed, on both counts.
With the help of computers, thorough records etc, what's the bind?
This could've been started last month.

"To those researching this, please focus on low performing dealers that survived the 'cut' and see if they can be tied to democrat donations. THATS where this story could really gain traction."

Can't this be investigated from both ends, ie, dealers -- regardless their performance -- and all donations made stacked up against the results?
The truth will speak for itself after its been revealed.

zerO & Co will fail blocking swipes made with a double edged sword.

Why that's fabulous!!
Thank you kindly. :^)

Thing is?
IF this stuff were done by a Republican (or otherwise conservative) the mantra drumbeat would be, "It's the seriousness of the charge!.

And that'd be it, all it'd take.
Away the quisling mediots would run rooting 'round for whatever they could find that could be twisted, spun and/or distorted providing it buttressed their accusation.
Maddening, just nuts.

Thanks again for the link! ;^)
