Princeton undergraduate. I wonder if she had the same miserable experience there that Michelle had?

I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

I would hope that a wise Caucasian man with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latina woman who hasn’t lived that life.

But as a judge, I would violate my oath and my public trust were I to so act.

Bias is bias. Ripping the blindfold from Justice invites favoritism. Doing so purposely by making a virtue of immutable personal characteristics elevates those characteristics over the rule of law.

If "equal protection" is subordinated to political or personal preference, respect for the law will not merely be diminished, but obliterated.

“It’s a better pick than he could have made.”

Yup. It could have been Napolitano, Kegan (((shudder))) or even Oprah. He’s got carte blanche and all the votes he needs. Anybody he picks will be confirmed. Had he chosen Hillary, he could have a ?moderate (like Powell!) to fill her SoS seat. Don’t those thoughts give you the creepy crawleys?

Instead, he appoints a catholic woman who made 2 unremarkable rulings on abortion which were fairly grounded in law. We are lucky its not far worse.

I tend to avoid that column. I get enough aggravation from reading the Boston Globe every day.

"General Rommel has been causing tremendous problems for our fighting men. I gave long and hard consideration to promoting George Patton to lead the fight against him. Although Patton seems the most qualified, I've decided to go with an Hispanic female."

” And I wonder whether by ignoring our differences as women or men of color we do a disservice both to the law and society. Whatever the reasons... we may have different perspectives, either as some theorists suggest because of our cultural experiences or as others postulate because WE HAVE BASIC DIFFERENCES IN LOGIC AND REASONING...

In simpler terms, she is a "subjectivist". "Truth" varies from person to person. "Good" varies from person to person. And, of course, since truth and good are variable we can never be sure of the meaning of the words of others, so accurate communications is impossible.

Nice pick, Barack.

Word was that Obams would go with his most controversial pick first, while his political capital is at its greatest; Hillary would be a safer pick than this one.

“Won’t blacks be upset that it wasn’t an African-American?”

They will be upset because the wind is blowing today, or it might rain, or it might not, or... well you get my point.

But, yes they will be upset but I bet they fall right in line and march to the Pied Piper!
