Thomas Hamill mentioned PFC Matt Maupin in his book, Escape in Iraq. I met Mr. Hamill at a book signing and he had both honor and respect for the members of the 724th that were lost in this engagement.

George W. Bush often carried Maupin’s picture with him, according to Keith Maupin. He said the former president routinely met with him and his ex-wife whenever they traveled to Washington for an update. Very poignant.
RIP Matt Maupin.
