SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Six months ago, Jim Wiseman didn't even have a spare nutrition bar in his kitchen cabinet.

Now, the 54-year-old businessman and father of five has a backup generator, a water filter, a grain mill and a 4-foot-tall pile of emergency food tucked in his home in the expensive San Diego suburb of La Jolla.

My next project is a safe room. Already stocked up pretty good on guns, ammo and survival stuff.

He’s still in a dreadful location unless he’s planning to escape by sea.

Quite conspicuously missing is the arms and ammos angle. No mention because the MSM is just so p.c.

I wonder if these folks are planting herb gardens that can be used to somewhat help their medical conditions when pharmaceuticals are unavailable. These days, many people require more than food and water to survive.

Why pay $20,000 to have it if you spend nothing to insure you can hold onto it?

Having any plan in case of natural or manmade disasters, is better than having no plan at all.

The one thing ‘they’ never tell you about paranoia, is that it is a time tested self preservation and suvival mechanisim that has made the diffrence between life and death.

I have 120 or so cans of veggies/Spam etc. and a few bags of rice and beans - because I’m smart enough to know that going to the store during street rioting is hazardous to ones health.

Eh...I bake my own breadstuff so I just try and stay 50lbs ahead of current need. I figure that it would last me several months of the supply gets cut off. If it gets cut off there’s no real grain production around here so I’d be screwed either way. I did plant a fruit tree or two and have some freeze dried fruit on hand.

You really have to prepare based on area. Meat and beans are all produced fairly local to here so I’m not scared about it disappearing. If it collapses it’ll mainly be the loss of things from out of area.

I have three generators, one can almost run the whole house. The only problem is there may not be any gas and it’s dangerous to store it.....not only that it is illegal in place to store a lot of gas. I know people that have gone totally solar and off the grid. Expensive though. We have a well so don’t need the water purification pills. I heat with wood so don’t need the heater. I am stocking up on food and using the Morman list which is quite good.

This is a stupid course of action if he has no means to protect his supplies.

For example:

If I lived in San Diego and an apocalypse happened... I’d know *EXACTLY* where to go to get some free supplies.

All it’d take is some firepower. And unless this person has the ability to stop all the others that think the same, he’s toast.

(Considering the amount of gang activity is big cities, he’d better have a machine gun or two.)

Fat lot of good all his preparedness is going to do when that missile carrying the Korean nuke hits California.

Living in an apartment puts a crimp on survival planning (you can’t exactly store a lot of food or what not), but I’m making up for it by focusing more on bugging out than on staying put. Already got myself a bug out bag (though the bad itself needs replacing badly), a tent, ammo, firearms, etc.

Excellent! If I run short on provisions, I'll know where to go get some.

A grain mill?

That’s hard core.

(I thought my geodesic greenhouse was extreme...)

I’m in the process of putting an LP gas adapter on my Honda generator. It’s easier & safer to store a fair amount of LP than gasoline and it doesn’t go bad.

If you don’t have guns and know how to use them - all the “survival” stuff in the world doesn’t mean jack.
