Obama may not understand the concept of honour, but properly trained military officers are steeped in the concept. Common Law nations depend on that fact.
Obama comes from a generation and an intellectual sub-culture who were raised to consider military force to be so awful that they never troubled themselves to learn its uses and limitations. Such people who then achieve political power have a tendency to fail to use military force when it is needed or to improperly deploy it when diplomatic remedies will suffice,
Part of learning about the use and limitations of military force is learning about military culture. There is such a thing as military virtue and a wise civilian leader will recognize it and honour it in his officers.
