Catholic churches in southern New Jersey are taking extra precautions since the Diocese of Camden received a letter saying biological agents would be placed in holy-water fonts and ventilation systems, a diocesan spokesman said Tuesday.
The diocese received an anonymous letter last week threatening to put biological contaminants in Catholic churches in New Jersey, said Andrew Walton, a spokesman for the diocese. The letter, which was mailed May 1 and has a Bellmawr postmark, was received in the Camden office May 4 and opened May 5.
The letter has been turned over to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, which is investigating the incident, Walton said.

Whoever issued the threat is going to find themselves in for some serious jail time.
More “tolerance” from the Gay Bolsheviks, no doubt.
.
I went to Mass last night in Haddon Heights and didn’t notice any changes in the HW bowl.
Holy smokes!
They can’t be too hard core, or they would have done it without warning!
Sounds like a hate crime to me. Oh, wait a minute, normal people can’t be victims of hate crimes—only the perverted and racists of color can be victims.
I do know that our bishop is in the process of consolidate the parishes in our diocese. I would hope that this would not be a factor but anything is possible.
Just publicizing the threat causes inconvenience and expense to the victims ,much like unfounded criminal accusations or the Democratic activists claims of ethics violations against Palin.
Anyone care to estimate how much productivity has been lost in the West because resources have been diverted to security measures, post 9/11? How many million man hour spent standing in lines to have your nail files taken and your feet inspected?
At least they have a clue in that the letter was sent from Belmar.
Weird thing is, (and I think it is why our parish particularly is not offering Holy Water) our parish priest has been assigned to a church in Belmar.
He is a wonderful priest from Malta, strong in faith and gives the best homilies I have ever heard.
“Whoever issued the threat is going to find themselves in for some serious jail time.”
There’s a place a LOT worse than jail waiting for this guy. (Unless of course he repents)
Ping to read later
That was my first thought.
Do you really think the Jesuits would be so bold?
Wait A Minute...How can Holy Water possibly get contaminated??? Did God lose His power???
How do we know it was not Notre Dame’s president who issued the threat on Holy Water? It seems right up his ally to show hatred toward church doctrine.
I wonder to what extent anti-Catholic films such as “Angels and Demons” encourage threats of this sort.
There are cases where people attempted to poison holy men to no affect. I guess the diocese could not take the threat without precautions. Can you image if they had done something and the people had not been warned?
That one's stolen.
(Is every other Amish guy named Stolzfus (or Yoder)?)
Mark 16:18.
But of course also, Luke 4:12.
