Obama Gets Schooled on Terror: Cheney Bests Him in Speech Duel — by Sticking to the Facts
nydailynews.com ^ | May 24th 2009 | Michael Goodwin

It was a tale of two speeches. One was clear, direct and powerful. Barack Obama gave the other speech.

It would have been heresy to write those words any other time, so commanding has President Obama been with the spoken word. But the real Mission Impossible was to imagine that wheezy old Dick Cheney would be the speaker to best Obama.

Yet that happened last week, and I predict it won't be a fluke. From here on out, results will increasingly trump the sensation of Obama's high-toned lectures every time.

Especially if they are as dreary as last Thursday's, which was so disingenuous and self-reverential as to be one of the low moments of his presidency. Besides not being able to clearly lay out his plan for Guantanamo detainees, Obama never mentioned what will happen to others we capture in Iraq and Afghanistan. Perhaps we will take no more prisoners?

Meanwhile, the occasion showed that Cheney, the darkest of dark horses, is emerging as a fact checker in exile. With Democrats holding all Washington power, the ex-veep's willingness to challenge Obama's narrative of the war on terror is a poor substitute for an institutional check-and-balance, but it's all we have.

In that sense, Cheney's ability to outduel Obama could mark a turning point in the debate on this and other critical issues. His TKO over the President recalls the three most important things in real estate: Location, location, location.

The key to Cheney's powerful performance: Facts, facts, facts.

"to be one of the low moments of his presidency."

We have a long way to go yet to be making wild statements like that!

I have been waiting for one issue to stick to Obama, but I don't think this is it. Pelosi's issue is the CIA, and it will happen to Obama.

There are two qualifiers at work here:

a. The low moment of his presidency
b. The low moment of this nation caused by his presidency.

I doubt that his followers will recognize any low moment.

Depending on which way the author means this, I might actually have a little more respect for Zero's understanding of the WOT. Or as modern Democrats might phrase it, the "War On Unexpected, Slightly Less Than Desirable Human Interactions", which makes it sound like we're using the full might of our military against people farting in elevators. Although that actually might not be a bad idea, now that I think of it.

The Pubbies must learn this lesson quickly and thoroughly. At every turn, at every opportunity, they MUST push back very aggressively against the LibTard tide.
The DhimmiRats are in the majority, legislatively, and don’t need the Pubbies for anything other than to share the blame when the whole house of cards comes tumbling down.
If the Pubbies acquiesce in that blame sharing, then they deserve to succumb to their own irrelevancy.

Cheney has provided the blueprint to defeating the Marxist onslaught. But, it will take a cohesive approach for it to be wholly successful.

I will add one more fact :
Governmentists like Obama do not respect facts and logic or they would not be governmentists.

In the wars between perception and reality, perception wins all the battles.

Reality always wins the war.

The main reason for this is “age”. With age comes experience which Obama has none.

"I doubt that his followers will recognize any low moment. "

Most of his "followers" are entitlement whores, willing to do anything to keep the free money flowing. The only problem is, the money - OUR MONEY - is flowing everywhere but to the people...like $20B to bring Hamas refugees to America to live.

Commiebama is not very smart, but he is smarter than the dumbasses who voted this phoney into office.

Really. The guy has almost 4 years left to go even lower. This was just the first lowering of the bar in this Presidential limbo contest.

I LOVE Cheney.

He’s got more balls than anyone out there with the exception of Rush.

Cheney is a PATRIOT.

I saw him in an interview recently. Cheneny doesn’t have much more time here ... he gasps for air as he speaks. He truly LOVES his country. He’s giving it all he has left. I LOVE that man. We need a few more Cheney’s out there.

Why are voices from our side suggesting Cheney shut up? Did anyone ever suggest gore shut his trap from the left? Never. They joined him. Our guy's need to be much more aggressive in dealing with zer0, nancy the liar, and the press as a whole. This isn't a dress rehearsal, this is the main event to save our traditions, culture, financial system, and our security.

“Sticking to the Facts”

Kind of underhanded of Cheney to keep on doing that. No wonder the left has its knickers in a twist over him.

The Pubbies ... At every turn, at every opportunity, they MUST push back very aggressively against the LibTard tide.

And to do this they need a fresh, dynamic, articulate figure to lead the push-back. Perhaps Liz Cheney? Perhaps a youngish, conservative Congressman, someone who's kept a low profile thus far?

Obama is inarticulate without a speech or teleprompter. He makes BUSH II look like a Churchill.

Yes, shame on Cheney for attacking an unarmed opponent. Not only is it unfairly one-sided, it probably is illegal under the Geneva Conventions and might actually be defined as torture. If he were more empathetic, he would cease and desist.

I recognize the first part of your quote, but is the rest your own quotation? If so - good job - may I use it?

Quite surprising that the leftist Daily News would print this. Maybe a few New Yorkers still remember 9/11.
