THE DREAM ENDANGERED - Many Immigrants Who Prospered in the Boom Now Face Crisis

"Oscar Arias saw in the real estate boom an opportunity to retire home to Nicaragua a wealthy man after fleeing the Sandinistas with nothing to his name in the 1980s.

He spent years in the United States toiling as a dishwasher, a chef and a construction worker. In 2001, he founded a residential and commercial renovation company, Potomac Restoration, out of his Woodbridge home. He bought two additional houses during the boom and planned to sell them and return to Nicaragua with a nice cushion, he said.

But the housing bust has left the 54-year-old on the brink of ruin. He has worked only a month this year. Two of the houses he bought during the boom are facing foreclosure. Unpaid bills pile up in his living room office.

Hispanic immigrants such as Arias benefited broadly from the construction boom and rising home values, which created jobs and nurtured flourishing local economies. Newcomers flocked to places such as Prince William County in search of well-paying, easy-to-find construction jobs. Established immigrants found work as real estate agents and loan officers, founded construction companies, and opened restaurants and retail shops catering to the influx. Now many are facing the consequences of the bust."

Ditto. I have yet to meet one of these “immigrants” who have any interest in supporting America, becoming a citizen and staying and supporting the Promised Land the way our forefathers did. And it’s not just those folks south of the border; I’ve met Eastern Europeans and Asians who are all about sucking the teat of the U.S.A. in order to retire wealthy back home. Pathetic. And we wonder why America is hardly the land I knew growing up in my youth. I’ve become a stranger in my own land and it hurts.

Luckily for the rest of us, only illegal immigrants are suffering in the economic crisis made worse by our Dear Leader. Thanks to the dying media for pointing that out to us.

The more I think about it, the more dishonest this article really is. What difference does it make if the guy who can’t pay his bills immigrated to this country or was born here? The WP’s entire premise is completely irrelevant to the matter at hand. (And can be proven if they would have walked around the same neighborhood and found a white guy who is out of work and in debt.)

So. The guy refinanced his first house to buy his second house, then refinanced the second house to buy the third house. Because of the world wide recession that has affected EVERYONE, he hasn’t had much work so he is now 5 months late on his payments. Basically, he gambled with his short term and long term savings in real estate and has lost.

Yet the WP willfully conflates this one man’s real estate gamble and loss, to his Hispanic identity by tossing out stats that say minorities are foreclosed on more than whites. Yeah, no bias here.

What a piece of warmed over dung this article is.

Welcome to Duh Won’s vision for America’s future. Your relatives had acquired far more of the American Dream than the average Community Organizee. The TOTUS’ vision is that your relatives, who are ‘haves’, will exchange places with a designated ‘have not’ family. The Black Shirt Civilian Defense Force will be by soon to inform you of which ‘have not’ will be occupying your relatives home.

He refinanced his first house to buy the second in 2003 and refinanced the second to buy a third in 2006. He had planned to sell them all -- perhaps to his sons -- and then return to Nicaragua. ......... the "Hispanic Scam" of buying and flipping homes..........scamming banks and leaving Americans with the bills.....

HOW IT WORKS Millions of latinos got mortgages with no proof of income or citizenship.....never asked for proof of employment, pay stubs, etc. As long as they had a pulse, and could write the name of one of their stolen identities, they got a mortgage.

The con artists promptly flipped the homes among family members for ever-higher prices and mortgages (duping banks at every turn).

With enough stolen money to retire in luxury, the last mortgage-holder defaulted and absconded to Mexico (and other Third Worlds) leaving banks (and taxpayers) holding the bag.

Screwing Americans gets a lotta laughts over tequila shots in downtown Tiujana.

Stupid politicians aided and abetted illegal invasions, copping out of responsibility, figuring US taxpayers would pay the bills.

Community organizer Obama and ACORN made sure illegal criminals got loans. So let's all thank Pres Obama for all the toxic mortgages that led to the Wall Street meltdown--and the never-ending billion dollar bailouts (/s).

I’m guessing Senor Tantaruna is not a native speaker of English.

Just curious whether this alleged “immigrant” was legally in the USA.

Also did he retain Nicaraguan citizenship?

Isn’t he more accurately called and “opportunist” than an “immigrant”?

Finally I know lots and lots of SE Asian REAL (i.e. legal) immigrants to the USA. NOT ONE is planning to take their profits from America to return to SE Asia for an early retirement.

Let's examine the ways Turd World scam artists and miscreants screw-over US taxpayers and how US citizens are forced to subsidize failed Turd World governments. Keep in mind, Mexico is the gateway to the US from The Turd World.

CONG TANCREDO'S CONVERSATION WITH JUAN HERNANDEZ Juan Hernandez is a dual US-Mexico citizen who heads up the Mexican govt's "Ministry of Mexicans Living in the US" (he was MacCain's Hispanic outreach man).

Hernandez told Cong Tancredo the Mexican govt is plotting to increase the flow of Mexican nationals into the US.......... to serve Mexico’s needs:
(1) to increase $50B a year remittances (30% of Mexican GDP);
(2) to secure US employment for an exploding Mexican population,
(3) to alleviate mexico's social instability;
(4) to force US taxpayers to provide free training and college degrees to Mexicans who are expected to return to Mexico with these skills.

Mexico desires amnesty b/c millions of Hispanics tied economically, politically and linguistically to Mexico can exert enormous influence on US....that means billions of US tax dollars transferred to Mexico.....and the Turd World.

I believe the article said that Mr. Arias is now a U.S. Citizen. Did you know that the U.S. all-owes people to keep duel citizenship? You should probably educate your self on this practice. I think you must have personal issues with People that at have dreams! It's not like they are taking something from you Personally?
