We did everything we could last fall to stop the Bush-Paulson ”TARP“—the $700 billion Wall Street bailout, knowing what terrible policy it was, and that newly created government program rarely ever end. It’s now the Obama-Geithner TARP bailout and Treasury Secretary Geithner says clearly that he doesn’t think there needs to be an end to the bailouts in this shocking recent testimony.

Video

he transcript is from this May 20th Senate Banking Committee hearing is worth re-reading:

I know how to stop the bailouts....vote these thieves out of office. Any congressman/woman or senator agreeing to the continued rupture of American's monetary system will be voted out of office. Let Free Republic expose everyone of these crooks...........

The only support I had for any of the money; is for how it originally sold.

That was a narrow, short term capital infusion to keep the banking system from melting down short term.

It was never originally intended to bail out entire industries and to fix their structural problems. That's what markets are for.

I've listened to some of Geithner's recent testimony to congress, and I've never heard such lying, imbecilic double talk in my life. There is absolutely no way that congress would swallow any of it for a minute if they weren't totally behind what he and the administration is trying to do, which is to completely take over the private sector economy. If he said anything that made sense it would hurt the cause.

Geithner is clearly of the "If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with bullshit" school of thought. No wonder he's in this administration.

And only 60% of those 25 senators to vote against it were Republicans.

I agree. The government was going to buy troubled assets for substancially less than their face value to get them off the books, and sell them when the market recovered, hopefully for a profit. Once TARP was passed, the plan was changed completely. The old bait and switch.

Once the government is in the door, you can never get rid of them

This socialist path we're on won't end at the ballot box

Bailouts never ending? If they never end, than something else must end. What could that be?

.....Vote them all out and fast......

That is something of an oxymoron. a vote must wait for the next election.

As Rush says....elections have consequences.

They won, they rule

“Time for a revolution.”

Don’t you think that is the point, and then they can institute Marshall Law...they want the conservatives to freak out and do SOMETHING, ANYTHING...it’s a setup.

It’s logical they are on something, and a power trip may be it. I know this is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen, and apparently noone is going to do anything about it. The Zeros ignore the tea parties, and the media swoons...it’s like they are working toward ‘some goal we cannot see nor understand’....that’s why I think it’s intentional like the derivatives and CDS’s...
Those bankers were highly educated men on risk management and they crashed how many banks??, and ruined capitalism intentionally. The proof is in the building of The International Finance Center of the Americas, Domenican Republic..that plan was decided and implemented FIVE YEARS AGO????, and is now being built to handle the derivatives and risk management and bank security and safety for future...it’s like someone knew all along it was coming. Either the guy was a genius or....
