Unemployed seek training for green-collar jobs (the "Green" con continues)
MSNBC ^ | 5/23/2009 | AP

As the economy sheds jobs, community colleges across the country are reporting a surge of unemployed workers enrolling in courses that offer training for "green-collar" jobs.

Students are learning how to install solar panels, repair wind turbines, produce biofuels and do other work related to renewable energy.

"I think the opportunities in this field are going to be huge," said Rudy Gastelo, a part-time handyman who left the construction industry two years ago. "I'm not getting that 9-to-5 paycheck, so I'm looking forward to maybe getting a job within a solar company."

I received a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering with an emphasis in power engineering. I personally started up thousands of megawatts of power plants that generated REAL power. My boiler company and the thousands of other equipment, engineering firms and utilities were responsible for bringing you affordable, reliable electric power. “Affordable” meant highly productive where it didn’t take armies of people to operate and maintain the equipment, unlike the boutique toys that are all the rage today. And “training” was something you did on your own by going to college and getting engineering degrees, all without government interference and subsidies.

It’s become hackneyed and trite, but boy is it ever true...

WE ARE SO SCREWED!!

There are no “green-collar jobs” other than government bureaucrats, and gov-subsidied industries (much of which would fail if had to compete in the open market)!!..

SORRY CHARLIE! ,, the “solar” companies are all in China (too dirty to produce here),, the best you can look forward to is a few short years of installing complicated power systems at residences that nobody will buy without a gov’t subsidy or tax rebate of some kind ,,, when those incentives go your job ends...

MSNBC propaganda for the totally fraudulent Green Gestapo Wing of the Permanent Democrat Party Regime.

Even if the Republicans ever win another election, there will be a vast unelected democrat party bureaucratic cadre as part of the government.

That's why we need to hold the line on tax increases and force spending cuts at every level. California is just the beginning.

I read “The Forgotten Man.” Just look at what FDR and his lackeys did to electrification pioneer Sam Insull.

Efficient, economical, profit-making energy entrepreneurship has always been anathema to “progressives.”

I personally believe it’s the same principle with health-care, something vital to all citizens that government has to control no matter what.

Can anyone understand the word ‘scam’? The community colleges are just doing in education what IBM, GE, HP, etc. are doing on a larger scale - maximizing their revenue based on opportunity. As long as the government, big media and large corporations think they can make money off selling ‘environmental guilt’ and ‘save the earth before capitalist-pig consumers destroy it’ - there will be suckers buying the product they sell. Remember when everyone was going to become a millionaire by learning to program or by becoming a ‘certified’ network engineer - lots of schools made nice bucks training, even more suckers paid good money and wasted lots of time chasing jobs that never materialized or went overseas (IBM publicly brags about how 70% of their employees are off-shore i.e. outside the US for those who don’t get it.) Also, where do you think HP will get all that work done as they continue to cut US jobs? It ain’t in Boise or Loma Linda or Des Moines - try Calcutta, San Paulo and South Africa.

Right, and there IS NO “green economy”. There is only the actual economy, and we unfortunately appear to have many millions of citizens who actually believe we can make up our own new rules of economics, and that they will somehow work.

The truth is: any high school kid can istall solar panels
and the maintenance is minimal. Another fact, most solar panels are maufactured in Europe or China. How is this going to help jobs in this country? Regarding wind turbines:
you do need skilled people and heavy equipment to install
them, but it’s a one time deal. Yes, they do need frequent
repair; however, access is difficult and it may be cheaper
to abandon them.

Bet this guy can't get a millwright, pipefitter, structural welder, rigger, machinist, lagger, scaffolding, erection, concrete or steel position anywhere: THAT would be real repair and power plant work.

Repairing wind turbines? Try climbing 250 ft UP a ladder every morning, every lunch break, every shift, every day just to get to work. No room up there for portalets, spare eqpt rooms, nor machine shops either.

If you forget a spare part, or need a socket, or forget the torque wrench - back dow 250 feet, back up 250 feet.

Yeppers _ In just a few years, we're going to see very, very few operating windmills. But the scam artists (the bureaucrats and salesmen and govt “pushers” will have gotten their consultant fees and left town. Selling out to the people who will lose money long term when the short-term construction subsidies stop, and the promised electric power revenue doesn't come in, and the very real repair bills start climbing up.
