LONDON (Reuters) - Embarrassing disclosures about the vast expenses claims of MPs amount to a "McCarthy-style witch-hunt" that risks driving politicians to suicide, a Conservative MP said on Friday.

British politicians have gotten caught in a massive scandal of abuse of expense allowance accounts.

Who ever broke this scandal, good job. Wish they could report on our congress. You know they are doing the same thing.

Mass suicides would be beneficial and cheaper than hanging!

Silly parallel.

The idea, which can be disputed, is that the McCarthy “witch hunts” were targetting Commies (or witches) that didn’t exist.

In this case, I don’t think anybody is denying the truth of the charges. They just think the abuses should be ignored.

Personally, I suspect this is the tip of the iceberg for Europe’s unitary business/media/political ruling class.

You're overlooking one thing. To most Demoncratic politicians, getting caught in a scandal is actually a resume enhancer.

Yeah, I guess some liberal newsman thinks he can gloss over the corruption by claiming it’s a “McCarthy witchhunt”.

No, it’s “corruption”, and it wasn’t corruption, they wouldn’t be embarrassed to be found out. I hope they all get voted out next time.

What was it Bush Sr, tried to tell us, “Character matters”.

They’d rather die than give up the lucre.

At the end of “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” the crooked Senator (Claude Rains) goes to the cloakroom and tries to shoot himself. Note that it’s taken for granted that a Senator would be walking around the Capitol with a gun.

One of the values of old movies is to see the freedoms that people took for granted just a few decades ago.
