First Trial of Gitmo Detainee Set for N.Y. Over Embassy Bombings in Africa

The trial of the first Guantanamo detainee to be held in a U.S. court will be conducted in New York's Southern District, Attorney General Eric Holder announced Thursday.

The decision to hear the case of Ahmed Ghailani in New York comes almost eight years to the day that four of his co-defendants were convicted after a Southern District trial for their roles in a massive al-Qaida conspiracy to kill Americans abroad that resulted in the destruction of two U.S. embassies in Africa, killing 204 people and injuring thousands.

"By prosecuting Ahmed Ghailani in federal court, we will ensure that he finally answers for his alleged role in the bombing of our embassies in Tanzania and Kenya," Holder said in a statement.

The decision to try Ghailani, a Tanzanian, comes in the midst of a controversy about where to send 240 detainees held at Guantanamo, which President Barack Obama has promised to close by January 2010.

In an address at the National Archives Thursday, Obama defended his plan to close the detention camp, saying there were "no neat or easy answers" to what he described as "quite simply a mess" left by the Bush administration.

And when there is a bombing at the courthouse, maybe the Lefties will wise up...but I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah, and what will you do if the court sets him free and orders him a green card?

“what will you do?”

What will I do?

Not much “I” can do...but if you have a suggestion for those who live in NY; I'm sure they would appreciate your enlightenment.

Back to 1993.

These idiots are handling the prosecution of a religious war by our blood enemies as though it was a law enforcement issue.

The Geneva Convention allows that, during wartime, saboteurs, enemy conspirators, spies, and ununiformed partisans can be summarily executed.

I WWII, they were tried and hanged, if they were caught stateside. In theater, they were summarily executed after extracting as much information as possible.

Hey, we might as well get used to it...it's gonna be “Amateur Hour” for the next two to four years...

Nothing new here...
the ‘Rats screw up & the GOP has to come in and clean up the mess...

All we can hope for now is that the Gelding Old Party gets a testicle & spine implant before next year and then maybe, just maybe the GOP can at least begin to retake the Majority in the House and/or Senate...
