Californias record unemployment more than doubled the cost of monthly benefits being paid in the last year to $1.6 billion in April, reports the state Employment Development Department. Payments were $1.5 billion in March.
Californias unemployment insurance payments now range from $65 to $475 a week.
With all these programs combined, the state is now paying about $77 million a day in unemployment insurance, says Loree Levy, an EDD spokeswoman.

Do you have to be here legally to get state unemployment benefits?
$77 million a day??
its time to end welfare and benefits for illegals.
Cool, man!! CA needs to let another 5 million illegals in to hand out even more dough.
no
So, if I understand this correctly, an illegal alien comes to California. He takes a job doing anything, works the minimum amount of time - then gets free food, medical care and money from the state for whatever period of time that has been mandated.
And then they wonder why California has so many illegals?
Then, they have the audacity to demand that the taxpayers from states who have the intelligence exceeding that of a Kidney Bean, give them money to support their failed policies.
How about we build a border fence around California?
our opportunity to really take down Obama may be almost at hand (the outrage in the other 49 states when he bails out Caleeeforrrnia)
Does anybody know if these benefits are impacted if California goes bankrupt?
HEY ARNOLD..........CUT THE BUDGET!!
