SC gov. sues state attorney general over stimulus [RINOs threaten to release criminals from prison]

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — First, South Carolina's governor refused to accept federal stimulus money for his state's struggling schools. Then the Republican vetoed a state budget that required him to take it.

This week, Gov. Mark Sanford sued his own state's elected officials in federal court, arguing the government can't tell him what to do.

. . . . .

Only Sanford and his few political allies dispute the need for the cash. Sanford says the stimulus cash takes the pressure from legislators to reduce government spending and get rid of waste. If the right cuts are made, the need for federal stimulus cash would fall.

But legislators say plenty of cuts already have been made. The current year's budget started at $7 billion but the recession forced cuts of more than $1 billion. Without the $700 million over two years from Washington that Sanford has rejected, educators predict hundreds of teacher layoffs, colleges forecast tuition hikes and lawmakers say prisons won't be able to operate.

"What we'd be doing is opening the prison doors and saying, 'Gentlemen and ladies, go,'" said state Sen. Hugh Leatherman, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, as he pushed the overrides earlier in the week.

Check it out. South Carolina’s *GOP* legislators are trying to blackmail Sanford by threatening to release prisoners from state jails unless he kowtows to them.

Hugh Leatherman, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee...

My senator, I knew it would be him. Charter member of the good-ole-boys club. Obviously he didn't really change many of his ideas or instincts when he jumped to the GOP.

Good, let the teachers take pay cuts, and lose jobs like everyone else. I am tired of this argument that more money for teachers helps education. It does not!!! Thats the liberal line they hope we all believe.

SANFORD, stick to your guns!! The majority of South Carolininans are with you on this!!

“’What we’d be doing is opening the prison doors and saying, ‘Gentlemen and ladies, go,’’ said state Sen. Hugh Leatherman”

Why not execute them. Problem solved.

Are any of the gubernatorial candidates on Sanford’s side on this? I want to contribute/go to work for them.

Leatherman is happiest when he is announcing $8 million of pork for things like the Florence Arts Center. The man has no concept that we want lower taxes and smaller government. Go Sanford go....

Uh, wth?

We're talking a Governor suing his legislature, not the President.
