Albuquerque police revealed details Thursday in the arrest of Tiffany Toribio in connection with the "Baby Angel" case.
Albuquerque police arrested Toribio early Thursday morning.
Detectives have worked around the clock since an unidentified boy was discovered Friday afternoon buried in the playground at Alvarado Park near San Mateo Boulevard in Albuquerque.
Albuquerque police released a computer sketch of 'Baby Angel' Tuesday as more than 50 officers and detectives canvassed the neighborhood, examined surveillance video from businesses and followed up on phone tips.
Officers arrested Tiffany Toribio around 4 a.m. Thursday.
The arrest warrant against Toribio included charges of first-degree murder on an open count and abuse of a child resulting in death.
At a press conference Thursday morning, Albuquerque police chief Ray Schultz said Tiffany Toribio admitted to suffocated her son -- twice -- at Alvarado Park before burying him.
Schultz said Toribio told officers that she and her son, Tyrus, were in the park before dawn on May 13 and that she suffocated him while he was asleep.
Schultz said Toribio told detectives she had second thoughts and performed CPR on the boy, reviving him, but then changed her mind and suffocated him again.
Police have identified "Baby Angel" as Tyrus Toribio, age 3 years, 7 months.

More troubling is that the mother had been abusing the child for some time and was kicked out of her mother's house and a friend's home because of that, but neither reported the abuse to authorities.
She was just putting him out of his misery before he had a chance to grow up miserable like she says she did.
The State of New Mexico should just her out of her misery too, and if necessary, move the case to Texas.
Needs killin’, IMHO. What a piece of work that mother is.
Hopefully the mother and friend will never again have a good nights sleep thinking about how they could have helped this poor boy.
The idiot liberal “church” groups in NM killed capital punishment this year.
NM list PING!
These poor babies. It sickens me to know that there are parents out there who do evil to their children. The little boy who was blinded broke my heart, now this... it’s awful!
Will someone please suffocate this lady in the exact same way?
Twice?
According to Obama, she was “punished” with that child.
Shes got that Helter Skelter look in her eyes
As I said on the other thread, it could be a tribal thing. She is a member of the Zia Pueblo and they are not usually comfortable reporting behavior of their members to non-native authorities.
Oh Dear God..
That poor baby!
There are just some things I will never understand..
Me, childless, who wanted sons so badly and could never have them...and monsters like this who have them and kill them...
Thank you for posting this Dave. I’ve been following the case from AZ as I was there working.
How very sad for that little boy. As my husband and I discussed tonight, literally hundreds of people right in ABQ at this time are wishing for a child and cannot have one of their own. Someone would have been happy to take that little boy into their home and love him.
It seems to me that her mother and friend should be arrested for contributing to this murder by not turning her in for child abuse and/or neglect.
This story breaks my heart.
Yes but the website www.repealtherepeal.org is trying to put it to a vote in an election.
It’s run by Darren White. Maybe we should ping the NM list?
Please spread the word so that we can get as many registered NM voters to sign it as possible.
New Mexico doesn’t have the initiative process like some other states. For example, to change the state constitution, the legislature first has to approve the placement and language to go on the ballot. I have never heard of a referendum being placed on the ballot by citizens in NM. If someone can quote chapter and verse it would help. As much as I like Darren, the cynic in me says this is just a way to get names that he can use for his next statewide campaign.
