So what do you do when you realize that everything you've ever thought and believed no longer worked for you? Where do you go when the bubble of progressive politics bursts in your face and you're left in the leftist place on earth? It seems that the choices are as follows: either you cling to your beliefs even more zealously and attack anyone who dares to disagree. Or, if you're like me, you embark on a journey of discovery and recovery.
I wrote another piece recently for American Thinker, a letter of amends to conservatives. In it I described why I transformed from a Berkeley leftist to a talk radio loving conservative the last 1 1/2 years. I realized the Democratic Party wasn't what I thought, that it had mutated into something mean and rough, and that I had probably been living in a fantasy world all along.
But....but....but that would never happen because they believe in the beauty and strength of diversity.
Oh, wait a minute....that's skin color, not ideas. Never mind.
Top ways liberals are converted:
Parents make them move out of the basement.
They finally get a full time job and see how much is taken out in taxes.
They get mugged.
Right wing talk radio has their own fantasies that their programmed listeners repeat blindly too. The have some simple narratives they repeat and pick their facts to defend. I was a follower myself till last year when the so called “Great Bush Recovery” crashed and talk radio suddenly became knowledgeable in the area. Time for some honesty on that side too.
>Time for some honesty on that side too.
The “Great Gun Rush and Ammo Dearth” says that it’s time for violence and revolution to be considered should that honesty NOT be forthcoming... and that’s good.
As long as they’re not like the “fiscal conservatives” who get fed up with higher taxes and move to a state where they’re lower, but bring the social liberalism with them that inspires higher taxes.
it took this poor soul a YEAR to deprogram. wow. i got my mind fixed in 15 minutes on september 11, 2001. in that short time i realized that no matter what the liberals had been screaming, the world was not a friendly place where everyone would love and accept everyone else. i knew finally that there are evil people who want to kill americans just because we breathe and do not believe what they do. my eyes were opened to the risks of this world, and in my heart i knew there was truly only one option. not love them, forgive them, embrace them, understand them, and peacefully co-exist with them as the liberals insist we must. our option was much more simple and effective....kill them all and let God sort them out. do not allow them to harm us again, no matter what. stop them from the world dominance they so desire. i knew all of this as i watched those two towers fall. and i knew that the liberal ideaology i had accepted for so long was absolute crap. i have become even more conservative since that day even though i have not changed the “democrat” label on my voter registration card.
My county in Maryland!
I still dont know what fiscal conservatives think they are for/against. They always give us higher taxes.

Would you please cite some specifics?
See my tagline.
I think a lot of them get low paying "prestige" jobs like working in a book store, then want the Nanny state to give them the same benefits as somebody earning twice as much or more. With the number of people who don't pay taxes hitting 40-50%, the 7% bite for FICA and Medicare is like a sales tax to them. People who make < $30K are demanding $10-15K+ in Medical benefits or more from those of us who make more.
If it takes only a year to deprogram a liberal, it takes about 10 minutes to turn someone off to the GOP because that person realizes that it is no better than the Democrat party.
Way Cool. Thanks for the post.
He was just elevating himself by stepping on our heads.
Wait until the cap/trade, sugar and alcohol taxes further rape the leftists wallets. If that doesn’t do it then they love bondage indeed.
We saw the economy recover from the Dot Com and the 9-11 disaster. This gave a false sense of security when the economy recovered. Things went well all through the Bush Administration. All along there were misgivings about derivatives and calls were made for changes. However, people would ask, why fix something that is working? We know the answer to that one.
The 2006 elections gave Congress to the Democrats. The Democrats ignored the calls for change. They did not want to kill the golden goose of the derivatives market that brought in money for them. And the press destroyed for President Bush the power of the bully pulpit. Whatever he said would also be ignored.
Then, forces arose that were never experienced in the economy before. The economy collapsed like a house of cards which repeated the same events that occurred 100 years ago with the Banking Panic of 1907. Read up on that event and pay close attention to the activity called Bucket Shops. These were the equivalent to today's derivatives market. Study up folks.
My worry about talk radio is that it acts as a relief value to dissipate conservative outrage. We listen instead of doing something.
RE :”My worry about talk radio is that it acts as a relief value to dissipate conservative outrage. We listen instead of doing something.”
Talk radio is helpful now when republicans are out of power going after democrat. When republicans are in power they tend to rally around the republican party leaders, Bush specifically, and blame their(his) weaknesses of others, the democrats.
I’m not contesting your statements, I’m just asking for examples.
