LINCOLN -- Two state senators hailed the signing of a new law on carrying handguns as a way to make certain law-abiding citizens aren't breaking the law.
Nebraska has had a concealed carry law for three years. More than 4,500 permits have been issued.
But State Sens. Tony Fulton of Lincoln and Mark Christensen of Imperial said passage of LB 430 this year will make sure that holders of permits will not run afoul of city ordinances that prohibit concealed carry.
Christensen cited the example of a motorist speeding down Interstate 80 through Kearney, where concealed handguns were banned.
Under LB 430, those who obtain state concealed carry permits would be exempt from any city ordinances banning such gun possession.
A handful of Nebraska cities, including Kearney and Beatrice, have rescinded their bans on concealed handguns in reaction to LB 403, which was signed into law by Gov. Dave Heineman on Tuesday.
One aspect of LB 403 that stirred controversy is a clause that now allows churches to permit their security guards, if they have a state permit, to carry concealed guns.
Now they just need to get reciprocity with Texas, and I'm good all the way there and back. And since reciprocity is a feature of this bill, they probably will. The Texas AG is pretty good about working reciprocity with other states.
HooAah!
The problem is lots of preachers are anti gun.
Yup, some of them are anti gun, turn the other cheek, until that cheeks gets shot also, then they might preach a different sermon.
My Pastor is a very old friend of mine. Eight years ago he got a virus of a very rare sort and it almost paralyzed him. Now he is confined to a wheelchair. Starting in just a few weeks when we both have time, I'm going to start giving him the classes to obtain a FL CCW permit. The indoor ranges here are all wheelchair friendly and I have already secured the one range owner's help for our day on the firing line with my Pastor. In fact I have been very blessed that nearly all the Pastors in MY denomination seem to be fairly conservative politically and also pro-gun as well. Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), split from the larger (and extremely liberal) Presbyterian Curch (USA) in the 1960s over the very issue of that liberal groups efforts to secure more national gun control laws instead of preaching God's word.
