Republicans to Drop Measure Labeling Democrats 'Socialist'

GOP Chairman Michael Steele had opposed the name-changing resolution, and other party leaders have called it "stupid" and "absurd." Republicans on Wednesday abandoned an effort to label their opponents the "Democrat Socialist Party," ending a fight within the GOP ranks that reflected the divide between those who want a more centrist message and those seeking a more aggressive, conservative voice.
Supporters of the resolution asking the Democratic Party to change its name instead agreed to accept language urging Democrats to "stop pushing our country towards socialism and government control."
The initial name-changing resolution had drawn criticism from Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele. Florida GOP Chairman James Greer called the idea "stupid" and Colorado Chairman Dick Wadhams called it "absurd." They said it made Republicans look petty during a troubling time for the nation.

The Republicans can't even bring themselves to call the Demo-Socialist Party by its true name: Socialist. While Obama and his Socialist Congress destroy the Constitution and freedom, the Republicans are still gutless and useless. Perhaps the GOP doesn't want to call the Democrats Socialists because the GOP knows there is almost no difference between the two parties; i.e., both support Socialist Security, Medicare, outrageous federal spending and debt, and the destruction of free enterprise.
GOP Chairman Steele and FL GOP chairman Greer are losers, just more of the same Rinos in the mold of Mel Martinez, Crist, Snowe, Collins, and Specter. The Republicans under Bush tried so hard to please the left that they lost the right. They haven't learned one thing from their losses to Obama and the Demo-Socialists.
Republicans are fakes, cowards, and liars --- just like the Socialists. We have taxation without representation.

So much for Steele’s promise yesterday to start challenging Obama.

I disagree. Fighting on issues takes precedence over name calling.

Republicans are in no position to call Democrats names so long as they continue to try to emulate them.
If Democrats are "socialists" and Republicans are trying to be more like Democrats, then what does that make Republicans?

I agree 100%.
Republicans need to distinguish themselves from Democrats by offering an alternative to their policies and vision, not by calling them names while trying to be more like them.

Oh, come on, it was silly to begin with. Just fight them on the ISSUES, and don’t worry about what you call them.

That’s about right for the RINOs, afterall they are really demrat socialists themselves. To those who perisistently not get it on conservative side: Look at what the GOP RINOs do not what they say and you’ll understand.

This makes sense. It would be hypocritical for members of the Republicrat party to call fellow party members socialists.

OK let’s just say that people paying attention already know the Democrats are socialists. The people not paying attention won’t believe the Democrats are socialists. Their supporters don’t care. So what is the advantage?

We surely don't want to make them mad at us. Play nice while they roll us up. I think the big problem is that it is just to good in Washington. Even being on the losing side has better benefits than anywhere else. Why stress yourself and fight for what is right. Life is good either way. just do whatever it takes to ensure you never leave

The Independents’ votes the GOP needs come from adults, and they won’t be swayed by watching the GOP sound like DU.

Michael Steele is stupid and absurd. Keep digging that hole deeper, RINOs. We'll gladly shovel it over you.

I know, wishful thinking. If Steele fights like this, we need to fire him and replace him, trouble is, how?

"...Republicans are in no position to call Democrats names so long as they continue to try to emulate them..." Then, OK...
For just one election cycle, change the Republican Party name to,
"Stop The Obama Party", or, "S.T.O.P."
Just think how that would roll off the tongues of the MSM.
