More stockpiling ammunition: Fear of potential Obama laws causing mass sales

Every day, Darren Newsom's three Bitterroot Valley Ammunition facilities crank out 300,000 rounds of ammunition.

It's not nearly enough.

“I'm going about 100,000 rounds in the wrong direction every day,” Newsom said. “We probably have about six months of back orders right now.”

Newsom has been in the ammunition manufacturing business for more than 20 years and he's never seen demand this high.

Fearful of the Obama administration's potential to tighten gun control laws, people from all over the country are stocking up on guns and ammunition.

“I went through the Clinton years and there was a bit of a scare then,” Newsom said. “This is like the Clinton years on steroids. On the day of the election, our phones started going nuts. It hasn't stopped since.”

As a master distributor for ATK - the world's largest ammunition business - Bitterroot Valley Ammunition supplies other ammunition manufacturers around the country with the components needed to make bullets.

“I get a million primers in every other day and most are shipped out the very next day,” he said. “I have 100 million primers on back order right now. We just can't get enough of them.”

At a recent gun show in Salt Lake City, Newsom sold somewhere between 300,000 and 400,000 rounds in the first two hours.

“It's just unreal,” he said. “Somewhere in lots of basements around the country, there are millions of rounds of ammunition being stored.”

Local businesses have felt the ammunition shortage.

At Bob Ward's in Hamilton, Mike Matteson said there has been quite a run on ammunition and reloading supplies like bullets and powder since the election.

“We are especially low right now with pistol ammunition,” Matteson said. “There are four or five calibers that we don't even have on our shelves.”

Since this caliber is still popular “east,” perhaps Saiga might give it a go? I’d buy one.

Try widening the adjustable red laser “pointer” to about a foot in diameter. It’s better than watching fireworks. Very cool.

You have too much if it cracks your home’s foundation...

Nahhh. Put it in the root cellar, you'll be fine.

If 75 million gun owners won’t join the NRA even when a first year membership is free, you’re fooling yourself if you think those gunowners will ever rise up to fight tyranny.

Keep in mind there is considerable (justified) paranoia out there. The aware American KNOWS that BOs minions are watching anyone joining such groups.

I’ve dabbled a bit in the Infantry/Special Ops business, but have never actually been “shot at by anyone who really meant it” ...

I remember loading up the backpack before heading out ... throw in some ammunition, and a canteen, and some more ammunition, and a few parachute flares, and some more ammunition, and some smoke grenades and a sleeping bag, and a little more ammunition, and some C-rations and a couple spare pairs of socks, and a little more ammunition, and pretty soon the darned pack weighed half as much as I did.

My own preferred cartridge, .30-’06, with 168 grain bullets seems to weigh about 30 lbs per 500 rounds.

In my home country Australia, especially in Sydney, where I live, robbers have blown up ATMs first with gas, and then C2.

Sounds about right. Given a choice now I would also carry 7.62mm grade weapon. Several time I dearly wished for an M-14.

Recall that David Petraeus took a 5.56mm round through the chest, and was out jogging a couple of days later.

If I end up having to shoot something, I want it to “stay shot”.

I was playing Texas-Hold'em with six other guys (all 60+) last night and they all agreed that we'd not get back to a good place economically without violence. (riots, etc)

They'd all bought guns, ammo, silver, gold and some had also stockpiled food, etc. (For the revolution)

And their medications? How do you maintain a stockpile of FDA-regulated supplies? The FDA must be stopped, too.

It truly is all about shot placement. I have killed hundreds of coyotes with a 223 and I have had many that required a second shot because I missed the vital area.

Keep in mind that Faux bama loma shimmy shack ding dong and the rest of the Demoncraps have to be looking at this 6 month buying frenzy and it has to be giving them some pause on implementing their agenda..

So keep up the good work people, every box of ammo and every gun is a vote against Statism.

How do you maintain a stockpile of FDA-regulated supplies?

It'll take a while, but in my experience you can get a 30-day prescription refilled after 25 days.

Thus, every six months you can accumulate an "extra" month's supply.

Simpler, if you've got an "understanding" doctor, get a second prescription and have it filled at a different pharmacy. Don't expect the insurance company to cover that one, though.

Shortly after the end of the Cold War, a group of high-ranking American military officials were attending an international military conference overseas. One of the Americans asked his Russian counterpart if the Soviet Union had ever seriously considered invading the United States.
The Russian laughed and said, “Oh no.....you people have too many guns over there.”

RANDOM THOUGHTS on your posting:

Militias need to be formed again and drills again reinstituted. Ammo is one thing, but the discipline to come together in an organized way to meet the foe is also needed. (By the way, if Washington could have had accees to those neat 16 mile 2 way radios that one can buy(2 for 10 dollars), the Rev. War would have been ended real quick; the point being, stock up on portable radios 2 way and other wise)

I think the country has become unwieldy and needs to be separated into several smaller countries or barring that, an increase of the Representation side of the government. A congress of 535 just can’t represent a country of 320 million adequately. It’s too easy for one party to get control over parts of the country that they really shouldn’t be in control by the use of gerry mandering.

I think the congress should be tripled in size in terms of its congessional districts and reps, and the senate should be increased to 150, with third senator being directly appointed by each state legislature to give a stronger voice for states rights. Our two party system is distorted because we are actually underrepresented!

We already belonged, we have been on the lists, including the concealed carry lists for quite a while. Just suspect this is the reason for the apparent lack of growth in these groups.

I know a guy with a semi auto PPSH and is very happy with it. Hes got a stockpile of ammo and considers it a very viable PDW.
