California One Step Closer to the Brink
The Business Insider/Yahoo Finance ^ | 5/20/09 | Joe Weisenthal

Another night in the great direct-democracy known as California.

Facing a minimum $15 billion budget shortfall, voters rejected a series of ballot items that would've closed the state's crisis-level deficit through tax hikes and spending cuts (it's the tax hikes that were the real no go). All of the measures had been expected to fail, even though Governor Schwarzenegger supported them.

Folks to me the states 2 biggest problems are 1)Illegals. They get too many services (primarily education) and do not come close to paying for them. 2) Public employee unions that have the democratic lawmakers in their hip pocket. Pay and benefits are too lavish. Until we control these 2 items things are only going to get worse.

C’mon California, show us a glimpse into America's future when the socialists run out of our money.

No. NFW. Not even close to being correct. Not in any way.

The only cost cutting measure on the ballot involved preventing raises for legislators when the budget is in deficit. It passed.

The Feds are going to bail California out and then we ALL get to fund their stupidity. They won’t have to tighten their belt one millimeter.

You are spot on! If CA hits the skids...some of us will be there to pick up the pieces and restore CA to it’s once Golden State status.

You are 100% correct. But Schwarzie will do nothing about either. Instead he will cut police and fire and then blame the voters for the results.

Well, California and the U.S. are being judged by God... and it’s now a very serious problem. This judgment has been going on for a while, but now it’s reaching the level of God “abandoning” the U.S. (and also as it pertains to California, too...)
Repentance on behalf of America must start with the Christians, first...

I know I already posted this elsewhere, but because of the comment about our situation in America, I thought it deserved another post.

Everyone familiar with the Bible knew this day would come, and it appears to have arrived. And with that being the case, we have to appeal to God on the matter, since this is from His hands and is His judgment.

And it relates to three issues, abortion, homosexuality and dividing the land of Israel. The U.S. will be destroyed, by the hand of God, on these three issues.

California is under the judgment — and — it would appear that God *has* abandoned America and has put it under His severe judgment. And the question now is what to do now that God is judging America, and California?

John McTernan joins Jan to discuss judgment on America. That is a sad reality. How did it happen? What forms is it taking? A clue is the worst of the financial meltdown all happened on days correlated to U.S. activity in Israel. Also the gay agenda and abortion anger God and McTernan and Jan explain why. Is there any hope, what can you do, and how should we pray? Also commentary on overall America-Israel relations and the pressure on Israel that will be unrelenting and unprecedented. http://www.johnmcternan.name

“Instead he will cut police and fire and then blame the voters for the results.”

Who will notice: Crime is rampant and the State is usually on fire.

Until we control these 2 items things are only going to get worse.

Never going to happen.

Government exists to feed ITSELF and the last thing those parasitic scumbags will ever do is sacrifice the tiniest bit of their own cushy situations, including all the perks, retirement packages, etc.

Like the hopeless alcoholic who wakes up in a dumpster one afternoon covered in his own urine, feces, and vomit, California must hit rock bottom before real recovery can truly begin.

California is leading the way for the USA. Substitute welfare sponges for illegals, and the UAW and every other union in the US for public employee unions, and we’re going down the road to California as fast as we can.

I think it will require the US Government to go bankrupt (Good Grief! We’re spending twice what we take in THIS YEAR!) to wake folks up. When the US Treasury can no longer sell bonds...

Of course, that will probably hit when military retirees like myself hit 70...or 65. I’m trying to prepare now for no money in 10 years, but it is a hard puzzle to solve.

I’m not exactly a genius when it comes to politics but I have this one theory. That California is like an alcoholic, in which, according to AA has to hit rock bottom before he can admit that he has a problem. Well California is close but not hit bottom as yet. I’m hoping that when it does, and it looks like it will, it will wise up and start it’s self healing. They might want to make a visit to Dr. Free Enterprise Conservative to help get back on their feet.

Yes, exactly. The worst thing Arnold could possibly have done was to take out a big bond issue at the beginning of his time in office.

That was like giving an alcoholic a pocket full of money and saying, “OK, now don’t spend this on drink!”

Raising taxes now would be the end, because it would just enable them to continue down their spending ways, while driving the declining number of wage earners and successful businesses out of state.

Meantime, Arnold has lost at least half a year since the full extent of the crisis became evident, screwing around and doing nothing.

not only military retires will be screwed by the bankruptcy or hyper inflation that is coming. all of us that have saved will be screwed, worthless money!!! all of us that were forced by law to contribute to the ponzi scheme socialist insecurity fund have been screwed,

time to burn downt eh capitols, and kill the dictators, time to free ourselves of this sick cancer of a government. time to overthrow them that inslave us. time to end this mess. end the USA and start again.
we messed it up big time, broke the bank, it will ruin us all, and the said truth is, our money was stolen via taxes and inflation.

dam the government to hell forever. dam them all.
