At NASA Ames Research Center, thru this weekend is the Collins foundation Warbirds, they have their restored B-17, B-24 and P-51 on display, the bombers are open for inspection, and you can purchase rides on them (I did some years ago, it was a blast flying in a B-17, what history happened in machines like that, what sacrifice!!! what heroism!!!!
very interesting history, as there are WWII veterns their telling stories of our great air battles of WWII.
Very interesting for you history buffs and aeroplane buffs. check out their website, and say thank you to a WWII Vet in person there!!!
the Moffett feild Museum also is open with extended hours this week. this is a great little museum on base, with tons of naval aviation history, and great info on the lighter than air craft that were based there.
have fun, and salute the troops, active and retired all!!!
Interesting website at this link - if you click on an aircraft, it will show you the cockpit.

Are these the guys who restored a B-29 to flying condition in northern california? I understand it’s still airworthy, but it takes too much money to fly these days ... Now THAT’S what I’d like to fly on.
Couple of years ago (well, about 10!) I took a ride on the B-17 that the Weeks Flying Museum has come around every year. Great ride, fabulous people! Dunno if it’s going to be here this year.
On the same subject, is the Confederate Air Force still flying a H-model P38, anyone know?
howdy UCANSEE2, Icansee my house in the top picture. Those airplanes are flying over us daily, it’s kinda cool, like being back in WWII. The sound of the P51 is quite distinctive.
i think that the confederate air force ran the b-29 you refer to. last flying example i think, or at least it was at one time. not sure of current status.
b-36 is being restored to display status at Pima museum in Tucson AZ. that is an impress plane. 28 cylinder four row radial piston engines, wild!!! Pima is a great museum to see. I dont think anyone will ever get the b-36 flying again.
hopefully we will see the b-29 fly again.
i think the confederate airforce b-29 was named Fifi.
thanks also for the spelling correction on collings foundation.
I just love airplane porn.
AN oldie but a goodie:-)
What is interesting about that photo is that they used a YB-40 for the picture if I am not mistaken. The twin top turrets is the clue.
Now I wonder if such a designed aircraft could fly?
